Q Is it a shooter or a Metroidvania
Both, and the developers say so directly: a retro inspired action platformer that combines the run and gun and Metroidvania genres.
In practice that means the moment to moment feel is shooting while moving, but the structure is a vast interconnected world where new areas open up as you acquire new skills and equipment. You will backtrack, and the backtracking is the point rather than padding.
If you have bounced off Metroidvanias because the combat felt slow, this is the version where it does not. If you have bounced off run and gun games because they were linear, this is the version where they are not.
Q What is the story
The world is in an energy crisis. A famous scientist, Dr. Klaus, announces the discovery of the Tetra Cell, a source with enormous energy producing potential. Twenty four hours later he disappears and his laboratory is destroyed in an explosion.
The industrialist A. Easton, president of Easton Industries, is suspected of kidnapping him in order to turn the Tetra Cell into a weapon. You play Vincent Fury, a special operative sent to infiltrate the Easton Industries research facility, rescue Dr. Klaus and recover the cell.
It is a deliberately 1990s premise delivered with 1990s presentation, and the store notes that alternate endings exist.
Q Do I need a gamepad
For a precision platformer with shooting in multiple directions that recommendation is worth taking seriously. If you own a controller, use it from the start rather than after the first difficult section.
Q Will it run on my machine
| Item | Minimum |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10, 64-bit only |
| CPU | Core 2 Duo E8400 or Phenom II X2 550 |
| Memory | 2 GB |
| Graphics | GeForce 9600 GT or Radeon HD 3870 |
| Storage | 300 MB |
These are hardware figures from around 2008, and the whole game occupies less storage than a single screenshot folder from a modern title. The only real gate is that a 64-bit Windows install is required. There is no Mac or Linux build.
Q How much is in it
The listed content is substantial for the size: hundreds of unique items including guns, melee weapons, bombs and accessories, more than ten bosses and many enemy types, and a variety of mechs to take control of, each with its own attacks and abilities.
Environments are destructible and secrets are hidden in breakable walls, which gives the exploration something to do beyond finding doors. The art is hand crafted 16-bit pixel work and the soundtrack is credited to Dominic Ninmark.
The game is single-player only with 27 achievements and Steam Cloud saves. Ten interface languages are listed including Japanese, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese. Released 13 February 2025 by Gelato Games Ltd, self published.
A USD 14.99 single-player action platformer for Windows that mixes run and gun combat with Metroidvania structure, released February 2025 by Gelato Games. You play Vincent Fury infiltrating Easton Industries to recover the Tetra Cell, across an interconnected world with hundreds of items, more than ten bosses, pilotable mechs, destructible environments and alternate endings. The install is 300 MB and the requirements date from around 2008, but a gamepad is recommended.
