1 Build the lodge in this order
The lodge accepts several functional buildings, and the developers name the Forge, Loom, Tanner, Critter Habitat and Transmutation Device, plus the Bed. They are not equally urgent.
| Build | Why at this point |
|---|---|
| Bed | Rested Experience compounds across the whole season. Earliest payoff |
| Forge | Processes ore, which is what turns raw loot into usable gear |
| Critter Habitat | Goldgrubs spin golden thread for passive income while you are away |
| Loom, Tanner, Transmuter | Specialised processing. Build once you know which materials you keep collecting |
The reasoning behind the order is simple. Anything that works while you are offline or accelerates everything else should exist as early as possible, because a season has a finite length and those effects compound.
2 Reputation is the real gear source
Five key vendors live in Stonehaven, and building reputation with them unlocks exclusive gear, crafting recipes and rare materials.
That is a very different progression curve from loot drops. Reputation only goes up, and nobody can take it from you in an extraction run. In a game where gear can be lost to other players, the parts of your progress that cannot be stolen deserve disproportionate attention.
Practically: when a quest offers a choice between an item and standing with a vendor, the standing is usually worth more over a season.
3 Craft rather than chase drops
The developers frame crafting as the answer to bad luck: when you cannot find the loot you want, craft it. That sentence is a design statement worth acting on.
Chasing a specific drop means repeating content and risking gear each time. Crafting the same item means gathering materials you can obtain from safer activities and processing them at your own lodge. The crafted route is slower per attempt and far more reliable per hour.
4 Playing a season, not a save file
The same logic applies to caution. In a permanent world, avoiding risk preserves value. In a seasonal one, an unused set of gear is worth nothing when the season ends, so the late part of a season is the time to use everything you were saving.
Seasons also bring new content and world changing events, so the reset is the mechanism that keeps the world fresh rather than a punishment.
5 Extraction as a business decision
PvPvE Extraction offers greater rewards at greater risk, with your loot going to whoever survives if you fall. That makes each run a wager rather than an adventure.
Two questions before entering settle most of it. What am I carrying that I could not replace by tomorrow, and what specifically am I here to get? A run with a target ends when the target is met. A run without one ends when something goes wrong.
If you want to fight other players without any of this, the Arena is the answer. No gear loss, just pride on the line, and it is the fastest way to actually improve at the combat.
Build the Bed and the Forge first, then the Critter Habitat, because effects that compound or work while you are away are worth most early in a season. Prioritise vendor reputation, since it cannot be lost in an extraction run. Craft the item you want rather than farming for the drop. And remember that hoarding makes no sense in a world that resets: spend what you have, and use the gear you were saving before the season ends.
