1 Who is Baelin and why does it matter

Nice Day for Fishing is officially licensed by Viva La Dirt League, the comedy group behind the Epic NPC Man sketches. Baelin is the fisherman NPC from those sketches, and the joke that made him famous is that he stands by the water repeating his greeting forever because that is all an NPC is allowed to do.

The premise of the game is that the joke stops being true. When the heroes of Azerim mysteriously vanish and an evil force threatens the land, Baelin is no longer an NPC but an Adventurer, and he has to defend the town of Honeywood the only way he knows how.

Do you need to know the sketches
No. The setup explains itself in the opening minutes and the game works as a fishing RPG on its own terms. Familiarity with the source adds jokes rather than context, so newcomers lose nothing important.

2 Is this a fishing game or an RPG

Both, and the two are the same activity. Fishing is the combat system. You battle fish with precision timing and magic spells, equip the right bait for the catch you are after, and time attacks to land a clean victory. Boss fish lurk in the deep and exist to test that skill properly.

The role playing side is the structure around it. Quests send you out, catches raise your strength, and new spells unlock as you progress. The store puts the equipment metaphor plainly: the rod is the weapon, the boat is the steed, and the hat is the armour.

Exploration runs above and below the waterline. You travel from Honeywood forest out to the Azerim coast, meeting quests and people to save, and beneath the surface you steer against underwater currents to guide the hook into hard to reach caves.

3 Price, add-ons and what they contain

ItemPriceContents
Base gameUSD 19.99The full adventure, 25 achievements
LegendaryUSD 4.9912 equipment and customization items in Legendary chests, including four boat sails
SoundtrackUSD 4.99The music of Honeywood as high quality audio

The Legendary pack lists 12 items in total, including four sails. The soundtrack is a separate music product. Do not count the four sails twice or assume every item has no effect merely because some names are jokes.

The current base-game API does not list a demo. An earlier demo announcement is not proof that it is downloadable now. Regional pricing varies, and the store page is the reliable place to check what you would actually pay.

4 Platforms, languages and controllers

ItemSupport
Operating systemWindows only on this store. No macOS or Linux build
PlayersSingle-player
LanguagesEnglish, French, German, Spanish for Spain, Simplified Chinese
ControllerFull controller support, including DualSense features
Cloud savesSupported, and Family Sharing is enabled
There is no Japanese localisation
Five languages are listed and Japanese is not among them. The humour is dialogue driven and heavy with wordplay, so comfortable English reading matters more here than it would in a game where the jokes are visual.

5 Will it run on my PC

Compare the listed GPU, operating system and DirectX requirements with your actual PC. Low published requirements do not guarantee that every recent laptop is supported; the memory requirement is 8 GB in both columns.

Free updates and the security patch

Free updates added Elite fish and seasonal activities beyond the original story. Their availability is separate from buying Legendary DLC or the soundtrack.

On 4 October 2025 the publisher released a security update for a Unity vulnerability and asked players to update. The notice reported no evidence of user impact at that time. Keep the Steam build current; this is a dated patch notice, not evidence that a particular player was attacked or a guarantee about every future security issue.
