1 What is Keep Digging
Wild Dog describes it as a digging survival craft game for up to eight players. You explore a procedurally generated underground world 5000m deep, bring back ores, blueprints and fossils, and use the smelter, forge and enchantments to build your gear.
The loop is deliberately simple to state: dig, bring it back, build, then dig deeper with what you made. What you carry home from one expedition decides what you can attempt on the next.
2 What Version 2.0 changed
This matters because most of what you read about the game may describe the earlier version. The developer describes 2.0 as a major overhaul of both the systems and the map.
| Addition | What it means |
|---|---|
| Procedural 5000m world | A completely new map, generated fresh so terrain, chests, fossils and routes differ each time |
| More than 350 items | Plus an inventory system for managing materials and equipment |
| Smelter and forge | Ores become ingots, and blueprints found underground become equipment |
| Enchantments | Orbs made from gemstones with random effects, which can be combined and stacked |
Equipment, blueprints and orbs all carry quality levels, so two copies of the same item can perform differently. That is the reason the loop keeps going after you have technically crafted everything.
3 Legacy Mode and your old saves
Version 1.0 is still playable. You select Legacy Mode from the title screen to return to the previous version of the game.
4 Co-op and PvP together
Online multiplayer supports up to eight players, and the store lists both co-op and PvP. The developer is direct about what the PvP element is: item stealing encounters between players.
There is also a cross world rule worth understanding before joining a stranger. You bring equipment and money earned in single player with you, and items found in other players worlds can be taken back to your own.
Both directions of that rule are true at once. World visits allow items to travel between players, while the stated PvP feature adds item-stealing encounters. Agree on the session rules before choosing what to carry.
5 Can you play it alone
Yes. Single player is listed alongside the multiplayer modes, and progress made alone carries into multiplayer sessions.
Save Anytime and Playable without Timed Input are store accessibility labels. Broadband appears in the requirements, but that entry alone does not establish an always-online restriction for solo play.
6 Price, platform and languages
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Released | 11 September 2025 |
| List price | USD 6.99 |
| Developer and publisher | Wild Dog |
| Achievements | 75, with Steam Cloud |
| Languages | English, Japanese, Korean, German, and both Chinese scripts |
Steam lists partial controller support; check the controls for the screens you plan to use. Costumes such as samurai and gorilla outfits, plus emotes with special effects, cover the cosmetic layer.
7 System requirements
The minimum is Windows 10 64-bit, a Core i5, 8 GB of memory and a GTX 1060 or RX 580 with at least 6GB of video memory, DirectX 12 and 10 GB of storage. The recommended tier moves to Windows 11, a Core i7, 16 GB and a GTX 1660 or R9 390X.
Both tiers state that an SSD is required and list a broadband internet connection. For a game with a procedurally generated world of this depth, the storage speed requirement is unsurprising.
8 Who this suits
| Good fit if | Poor fit if |
|---|---|
| You like gathering, crafting and incremental gear improvement | You want a story or a defined ending |
| You have friends to dig with | Losing items to another player would ruin it for you |
| You enjoy randomised stats and chasing better rolls | You dislike systems where the same item can be worse by chance |
Launch fixes and which graphics advice still applies
Version 2.0 was released on 28 April 2026 as a free overhaul, not a separate paid sequel. The release announcement confirms that 1.0 remains selectable through Legacy Mode and uses separate save data. Check the selected mode before comparing your map, inventory or progress with a guide.
For launch trouble, first check whether the installation includes the July updates. Version 2.1.0.9805 removed Nanite, Lumen and MegaLight rendering features and added DirectX 11 compatibility mode for systems where the game would not launch. Advice asking you to tune those removed rendering features is obsolete for that build.
The next hotfix, 2.1.0.10274, fixes a crash in DirectX 11 compatibility mode. Version 2.1.1.10471 then reduces memory use by approximately 1 GB and fixes several crashes. The developer expected this to address failure to launch on 8 GB RAM machines; this is a specific fix, not a guarantee for every 8 GB configuration.
If trouble continues, record the selected mode, installed version, hardware and what happened. The July hotfix saves GPU crash dumps and the crash reporter accepts circumstances and reproduction comments. Keep diagnosis focused on the actual failing environment rather than assuming that the 2.0 launch-day VRAM issue is still the sole cause.

A seven dollar digging survival craft game for up to eight players, rebuilt in Version 2.0 with a procedurally generated 5000m world, over 350 items, a smelter, forging from found blueprints, and random effect enchantment orbs. Equipment, blueprints and orbs carry quality levels, so the same item can perform differently. Version 1.0 remains playable as Legacy Mode with separate saves. PvP means item stealing, and items travel between worlds in both directions. It needs an SSD and a broadband connection, and carries 75 achievements.
