1 Build around one engine
With more than 180 skills per hero and over 130 relics and gear pieces, no run gives you enough choices to build everything. The runs that end well are the ones that pick a single engine early and then only take pieces that feed it.
This is uncomfortable early, because refusing an obviously powerful relic feels wasteful. It stops feeling wasteful the first time a focused build produces a chain reaction that clears a room instantly.
2 Fusion is a decision, not a reward
Embers, Spellcards and Legendary Gear are meant to be fused. Any system that consumes components to produce something better also destroys the flexibility those components represented.
| Situation | Fuse or hold |
|---|---|
| Early in a run, direction unclear | Hold. Components you keep can still become anything |
| Your engine is identified | Fuse immediately. Delay only wastes the rooms in between |
| A boss is next | Fuse. A component saved for a run that ends here is worth nothing |
| You are already overpowered | Fuse toward survivability rather than more damage |
The last row matters more than it sounds. Once a build is breaking the game, extra damage changes nothing and the only thing that can still end the run is one unlucky hit.
3 Choosing routes in a shifting run
Every run reshapes itself with new events, routes and encounters. That means route choice is a resource decision, and the correct choice changes depending on how far along you are.
Players who apply one policy for the whole run lose either way. Being cautious early wastes the cheap experiments, and being greedy late throws away the runs that were nearly finished.
4 Surviving the speed
The pitch is brutal and high speed, with every move hitting hard, fast and clean. Speed cuts both ways: the same responsiveness that lets you delete a room also means a mistake resolves before you can react to it.
| Habit | Effect |
|---|---|
| Move before the room resolves | Standing still to watch your own effects is where most deaths happen |
| Fight near the middle | Corners remove escape directions in a game where escape is the only defence |
| Stop attacking at low health | Damage you do not deal costs seconds. Damage you take ends the run |
| Turn effects down | Once your build is loud, your own visuals hide the enemy telegraphs |
5 Using 212 achievements as a to do list
A list this large is a content index. Rather than treating it as completion work, use it to find systems you have not touched: an achievement referring to a mechanic you do not recognise is telling you that part of the game exists.
This is especially useful with four heroes. If most of the list is unfamiliar, it usually means the other three heroes contain content you have never seen rather than that you are playing badly.
6 Playing an Early Access game sensibly
The developer promises constant updates with new content, new systems and more ways to win. Two practical consequences follow.
That is also why this page describes how to evaluate choices rather than naming a best build. In an Early Access roguelite the second kind of advice expires and the first does not.
7 Mistakes that cost the most runs
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Taking the highest number every time | Take what multiplies your existing pieces instead |
| Hoarding fusion components all run | Fuse once the direction is clear, and always before a boss |
| Switching hero every few runs | Stay on one until its skill pool stops surprising you |
| Playing greedy in a deep run | Shift to the safe branch once you are past the halfway point |
| Judging the game by the store requirements | They contain errors. Read the FAQ page for what is actually written |
Pick one engine per run and judge every offer by whether it makes your existing pieces fire more often. Hold fusion components while the direction is unclear, then fuse decisively once it is clear and always before a boss. Take risky routes early when a loss is cheap and safe routes late when it is not. Keep moving while your own effects resolve, since that is where most deaths come from. Treat the 212 achievements as a map of content, and expect balance to move, so favour principles over a named best build.
