1 Set the difficulty deliberately, on day one
The developers state that difficulty can be tuned in the settings for players new to action RPGs or soulslike games. Most players in this genre never look, because the genre has trained them not to.
Decide honestly what you came for. If you are here for the story, the score and the world, there is no prize for suffering through the combat at a setting that frustrates you. If you are here for the fight, leave it alone and enjoy it.
Making this choice explicitly at the start is better than making it implicitly after four failed boss attempts, when it feels like a concession rather than a preference.
2 Pick a first class you can read
Six classes are available at creation: Vanguard, Flameweaver, Spellbinder, Nightshade, Wyldwarden and Vindicator. Each has its own Talent Tree, so the choice sets the shape of your progression as well as your opening kit.
Because there are multiple endings and six trees, a second run is genuinely a different experience. That makes the first choice lower stakes than it appears, provided you treat it as a way in rather than a commitment.
3 Learn one enemy properly before moving on
Combat here rewards dodging, parrying and striking on timing. That is a skill built per enemy, not in general. The common early mistake is pushing forward through unfamiliar creatures on health rather than on understanding, which works until it suddenly does not.
When a new enemy type appears, spend a fight learning it deliberately: watch a full attack without trying to punish it. One deliberately passive encounter usually costs less than the three deaths it prevents, and the knowledge keeps paying out for the rest of the area.
4 Craft earlier than feels necessary
Hundreds of weapons and items can be crafted, and the store frames crafting as the way to define your playstyle, die less and deal damage faster. Players who treat crafting as an endgame activity give up all three benefits for the part of the game where they most need them.
The habit worth forming is to check what you can make every time a boss stops you, rather than only when your inventory is full. A stalled fight is exactly the moment when a crafted upgrade changes the arithmetic.
5 Treat a locked path as a note, not a wall
The world is described as vast and interconnected, with 75 unique locations. Worlds built this way routinely show you a route long before they let you take it.
When something is unreachable, the productive response is to remember where it was and carry on. Grinding against an obstacle that is gated rather than hard is the single largest waste of time available in this kind of game. With 60 quests running, there is almost always another thread that moves.
Set the difficulty on purpose at the start rather than after four failed attempts, since the developers explicitly support tuning it. Choose a first class whose attacks are easy to read, because in a timing based game your own animations are the hardest thing to learn. Study one new enemy per area instead of pushing through on health, craft whenever progress stalls, and treat an unreachable path as a note to return to rather than a wall to grind against.
