Q What kind of dungeon crawler is it
A dark fantasy crawler with a premise that doubles as a mechanic. A demon invasion is ending humanity, and the only way to fight back is to make a pact with the Devil and choose one of six demons to worship.
Movement happens on world maps dotted with landmarks: villages, graveyards, crypts and ruins. You clear them, retrieve old relics, and help the inhabitants of a world that is already losing.
The developers cite dark fantasy literature and John Milton as influences, and the presentation is hand crafted art with atmospheric cutscenes rather than procedurally generated corridors.
Q Is the combat real time or turn based
That matters because the art style suggests an action game to many buyers. If you want something that tests your hands, this is not it. If you want to solve a fight rather than perform one, it is aimed at you.
Q What does choosing a demon change
The demon you worship is the source of your powers. Dozens of demonic abilities are available across the six, and the game is explicitly built around finding synergies and creating combinations rather than picking the strongest single skill.
Alongside that sits a passive skill tree that is described as unique to your character. So there are two layers to a build: which powers you can call on, and what your character is quietly good at underneath them.
Q Which languages are supported
Since the whole appeal is reading ability text carefully and combining effects, playing in a language you are not comfortable in costs more here than in most games. Check the list before buying.
Q Requirements and replay value
| Item | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 7, 8 or 10, 32 or 64-bit | Same |
| CPU | 2.8 GHz dual core | Quad core |
| Memory | 4 GB | 4 GB |
| Graphics | HD 6670 or GTX 200 series, 1 GB | R7 200 or GTX 500 series |
| Storage | 1.5 GB | 1.5 GB |
DirectX 9 and a 32-bit compatible build mean this runs on genuinely old machines. Windows only, with full controller support including DualShock and DualSense handling.
For replay there is New Game Plus with increased difficulty, different starting demons and new challenges, plus 43 achievements. Released 26 May 2022 by Ars Goetia, published by Dear Villagers and Gamersky Games, with one piece of downloadable content available.
A USD 2.99 dark fantasy dungeon crawler for Windows from Ars Goetia, released in 2022. Combat is turn based and strategic rather than reflex driven, and your powers come from whichever of six demons you choose to worship, layered on a passive skill tree. It runs on very old hardware and offers New Game Plus with different starting demons. The one real caveat is language: English, French, German, Simplified Chinese and Polish only.
