How to find a combination rather than collect abilities, what the passive tree is really for, and how to plan a New Game Plus that plays differently.

1 A combination is two abilities, not six

With dozens of demonic powers available, the temptation is to assemble a broad toolkit that answers everything. That produces a character who has an option for each situation and an advantage in none.

Find one pair that multiplies, then protect it
A devastating combination in a turn based game is usually two effects where the first makes the second much better. Once you have that pair, every other slot exists to make sure you get to use it, not to add a third unrelated trick.

In practice this means the supporting abilities you want are the boring ones: something that buys a turn, something that keeps you alive, something that makes the setup land reliably.

2 What the passive tree is for

The passive skill tree is described as unique to your character, and it sits underneath whichever demonic powers you are using. That separation is the interesting part of the design.

Powers are situational, chosen per fight. Passives are always on. So the passives should support the thing you do every single turn, not the spectacular thing you do occasionally.

3 Judging a demon fairly

Because the passive tree is separate, a demon can look weak simply because your passives were built for a different rhythm. Before concluding that a set of powers is bad, check whether the always on layer is helping them at all.

The honest test is whether the demon has a pair that multiplies. A demon with three strong but unrelated abilities is usually worse than one with two mediocre abilities that combine, and raw numbers on a description screen will not tell you which you are looking at.

4 When a fight is unwinnable, it is a build problem

Turn based combat removes execution as a variable, which is clarifying. If a fight is repeatedly lost, retrying it the same way cannot work, because nothing about your performance is going to improve.

That makes the diagnosis simple and the fix mechanical. Something in the loadout has to change: a different power, a different opening order, or a passive that keeps you alive one more turn. Persistence is not a strategy in a game with no reflex component.

Monstrous bosses are described as being either your end or your salvation, which is a fair warning that some encounters are checks on your build rather than on your patience.

5 Planning New Game Plus

New Game Plus offers increased difficulty, different starting demons and new challenges, and the developers state plainly that the game is never the same twice.

The way to make that true in practice is to change the axis rather than the numbers. If your first run was built on a damage pair, build the second around denial or sustain. Replaying the same plan at a higher difficulty tests your patience; replaying a different plan tests the game.

The 43 achievements give a reasonable checklist for what you have not yet tried, and with six demons available there is a natural upper bound on how many genuinely different runs exist.

Summary

Build around one pair of abilities where the first makes the second much better, and use every other slot to protect that pair. Spend passive points on whatever you do every turn rather than on your spectacular option, since passives are always on and powers are situational. Judge a demon by whether it has a multiplying pair, not by its numbers. When a fight keeps failing, change the loadout, because persistence cannot substitute for execution in a turn based game.
