Q Is this finished, and does that matter
That does not make it a bad purchase, but it does change what you are buying. What exists now is a survival sandbox with deep systems. What is not yet there is the destination those systems are meant to lead to. Buy it for the moment to moment survival, not for the story.
Q How realistic is the survival
More than most. Two details from the developers set the tone. Water must be boiled before it is safe to drink, and raw materials require proper treatment before they can become tools.
Alongside that, every task consumes time. Cooking, crafting and gathering are not instant, so a day has a real budget. Hunger, hydration and energy are tracked both while resting at camp and while exploring.
If your reference point is a survival game where you drink from a river and craft an axe in one click, this is a considerably slower and more deliberate experience. That is the stated design goal rather than a shortcoming.
Q Can it be played with friends
Yes. Online co-op is listed, and so is cross-platform multiplayer, which matters here because the game ships on Windows, Mac and Linux. A group does not all have to be on the same operating system.
Full controller support is listed with DualShock and DualSense handling. That combination of three platforms plus cross-play is unusual for a small studio release.
Q What is unusual about the building
Two things, and both are listed as key features. The shelter system uses walls, floors and roofs that are not locked to a grid, and terraforming is dynamic.
Free placement means the buildings you make are genuinely yours rather than assembled from tiles, at the cost of being fiddlier. Terraforming means the ground itself is a material.
There is also a camera choice: you can switch between third-person and a top-down view for better spatial awareness. That is a practical building aid as much as a stylistic option.
Q Requirements and languages
| Item | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10, 64-bit | 64-bit |
| Memory | 4 GB | 8 GB |
| Graphics | 2 GB VRAM | 8 GB VRAM |
| Storage | 4 GB | 8 GB |
The requirements are given in general terms rather than by specific chip, which is worth noting: no processor model is listed in either column. The figures themselves are undemanding.
Seven interface languages are listed: English, Russian, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Simplified Chinese. Japanese is named among the upcoming localisations rather than the current ones. There are no Steam achievements listed, and a free demo is available. Released into Early Access on 3 October 2024 by Original Studios.
A USD 10.19 realism focused survival game for Windows, Mac and Linux, in Early Access since October 2024. Water must be boiled, materials must be treated, and every task consumes time. Building is free form rather than grid locked, and online co-op supports cross-platform play. The important caveat is the Early Access status: a meaningful long term goal is listed as upcoming rather than present, so buy it for the systems rather than the story.
