Cubic Odyssey FAQ
Buying, hardware, game modes and multiplayer: the choices to check before starting a new galaxy.

1. What is the game, and is it released?

Cubic Odyssey is a released space exploration and crafting game from Atypical Games, published by Gaijin Network Ltd. The Steam release date is 14 May 2025. The current Steam genres are Action and Adventure, with no Early Access label. You gather resources, build equipment and structures, explore planets, and confront the Red Darkness infection.

Its scope includes ground vehicles, spaceships and travel between star systems. NPC settlements, trading, quests, pirate locations and ruins give trips different purposes. That describes the available activities, rather than a required sequence that every player must follow. The store supports single-player as well as online and LAN co-op.

2. What is the price, and is there a demo?

The US Steam API lists the base game at a regular price of USD 24.99 on 26 October 2026. The discount is zero in that snapshot. Regional prices, bundles and later promotions can differ; check the purchase panel before paying. A past USD 9.99 promotion should not be treated as the permanent base price.

Steam currently lists a free demo, app 3456560. Use it to assess controls and the feel of exploration, while checking the demo page for its own limitations. The main game lists six DLC items and 37 achievements. These counts do not establish that DLC is necessary for multiplayer, and the developer explicitly introduced the dedicated server feature as free for PC owners.

3. How do Story, Adventure and Creative differ?

For a first run focused on the narrative, Story is the natural starting point. Adventure is a separate mode: the September 2025 developer explanation describes a new galaxy seed for each new game, with planets and star systems arranged differently. It starts the player on a random planet with a speeder, spaceship, tier-1 equipment, batteries and resources for an initial shelter.

Creative serves building and experimentation. The official guide says materials can be selected in unlimited quantities within backpack capacity, levitation is activated with X, and players are invincible. Blueprints preserve builds for placement with the necessary materials. The guide also proposes trying weapons in Creative before returning to Story with an understanding of their behavior.

Update 1.2.5.5 added starting-planet customization through a button in character setup for Adventure and Creative. Choose the mode and starting setup before following a guide: advice to spend every opening session constructing a first spaceship is unsuitable for the documented Adventure start.

4. How does multiplayer progression work?

Online and LAN co-op are listed on Steam. For Adventure sessions, the developer states that characters must use the same mode: each participant needs an Adventure character to join an Adventure game. This is a useful check when a friend cannot enter the expected session.

Dedicated servers were introduced through a separate Steam Tools application, configured with a file and launched outside the normal peer-hosted game. The launch announcement supports up to 20 players and says each server uses its own character, with progress tied to that server. It also says the server can remain playable without the host being in the game while the server application is running.

The launch announcement called dedicated servers beta. Treat that as the status of the announcement rather than a new guarantee about the current interface. Decide which server your group will use before investing in character progress; this guide does not promise that progress transfers between independent servers.

5. What computer does Steam list?

The Windows minimum is a 64-bit processor and Windows 10, Core i5-2500 or AMD FX-4350, 8 GB RAM, DirectX 11, and 6 GB of available storage. The graphics line lists GTX 1060 / RX 580 with 6 GB VRAM. Steam strongly recommends an SSD and lists broadband Internet in both requirement columns.

Recommended hardware is Core i5-6500 or Ryzen 3 1200, 16 GB RAM, and RTX 3060 / RX 6600-XT with 6 GB or more VRAM. These are the published store requirements, not measured frame-rate results. Check the exact GPU model and memory in your own machine rather than assuming that cubic art makes integrated graphics sufficient.

The store platform flags list Windows, without native macOS or Linux builds. That does not by itself establish compatibility or performance through a translation layer. Full controller support and DualShock/DualSense support are listed, along with adjustable text size, camera comfort, custom volume controls, play without timed input and save anytime.

6. What do Workshop and recent updates add?

Update 1.2.0.0 made Workshop integration concrete: structures use a Share button in blueprint information, subscribed blueprints receive an icon, and shipyards have a Workshop button for ship designs. The same update added searching the galaxy map by star-system name and banking currency on planets not overrun by pirates.

Update 1.2.5.0 added agriculture through the Farm-Tool gun, seeds, growing plants and fruit, with NPC quests or buyers for produce. Update 1.3.1.0 added taming uncorrupted animals, capture grenades, hunger upkeep and a creature mixer for compatible captured animals. These are specific activities to revisit if an older launch guide describes only mining and ships.

English is listed with interface, subtitles and full audio; the store lists 11 interface languages overall. Use the in-game accessibility and volume settings to suit your session. The current content descriptors are empty, but the game still contains combat against pirates and infected creatures.
