Start with the right mode, then use the current building, inventory and progression tools instead of following an assumed crafting ladder.

1. Choose the opening that matches your goal

Before planning a base, select the type of run. Story suits a first narrative playthrough. Adventure deliberately changes the arrangement of planets and systems in each new galaxy, according to the developer explanation from September 2025. A route copied from someone else may therefore lead to a different set of destinations.

The documented Adventure start already provides a speeder, spaceship, tier-1 gear, batteries and resources for a shelter on a random planet. First inspect that equipment and the immediate objectives. A universal instruction to build tools, then an outpost, then a speeder, then a spaceship would hide what this mode actually gives you.

Update 1.2.5.5 added an option in character setup to customize the starting planet for Adventure and Creative. Decide on that setup before beginning. The official notice confirms the feature but does not publish a single optimal configuration, so this guide does not invent one.

2. Use Creative to learn construction deliberately

Creative is a practical place to test a build before committing to a resource-gathering session. The developer guide describes selecting unlimited materials within inventory capacity, X for levitation, and invincibility. It is designed to remove threats and material shortages while you work on structures.

Make a small test rather than immediately filling a whole site: check how you place blocks, move around the build and capture its shape as a blueprint. The official guide says a saved blueprint can be placed and supplied with materials. That supports practicing a design; it does not establish that a particular blueprint is free in other modes.

Creative also allows weapon experiments. The developer suggests trying weapons there and returning to Story with that knowledge. Treat this as learning controls and handling, rather than as a promise that Creative inventory or character progress transfers into a Story save.

3. Turn a vague project into one checked recipe

Mining, refining and crafting support tools, weapons, outposts, vehicles and starships. Pick one immediately useful project and inspect its current in-game requirements. Gather for that recipe, then verify the output before queuing another project. This is a planning suggestion based on the crafting loop, not an official unlock order.

Skills and recipes are part of progression, but the store does not justify a fixed early skill allocation for every mode. Read the current unlock description before spending points. A combat upgrade, a building unlock and a travel objective solve different problems; choose according to the activity that is actually blocking your run.

Inventory sorting gained automatic stacking and compaction in update 1.2.0.0. Use it before assuming that a backpack is full of distinct supplies. If a crafting count looks wrong, check actual inventory contents and the selected recipe rather than relying only on an old screenshot of the interface.

4. Know what your currency is exposed to

Update 1.2.0.0 added banks on planets not overrun by pirates. The developer states that currency can be deposited there so the respawn cost applies only to what the character carries. Before an expedition, check whether banking is available and decide what cash you need to take.

That is a specific risk-management tool, not evidence that every defeat destroys a base or that an unattended home planet inevitably vanishes. The store describes Red Darkness as a planetary threat, but does not establish a universal timer for losing player structures. Avoid planning around an invented countdown.

Trading with NPCs and doing quests are supported activities. Compare an actual offer before committing a cargo load to a supposed trade route. This guide does not promise price differences between arbitrary systems, automatic profit on a full hold or zero-cost warp travel.

5. Add farming and animals as separate projects

Agriculture arrived in update 1.2.5.0. The Farm-Tool gun plows soil and can fertilize plants to speed growth. Seeds grow into plants that produce fruit; some NPCs request these items in quests and others buy them. This gives a base an activity beyond storing ore and building vehicles.

For a first farming experiment, read the seed and tool interfaces and follow one crop through to harvest before scaling up. That keeps the experiment tied to the actual mechanic. The announcement does not supply universal growth times, guaranteed profit rates or an ideal crop rotation.

Update 1.3.1.0 adds another upkeep system: uncorrupted animals can be captured with a special grenade and released as pets. Their hunger indicator falls over time; at zero they return to being wild. A creature mixer combines two compatible captured creatures and inherits traits from both. Inspect compatibility before planning a breeding project.

6. Use current fixes to troubleshoot specifically

Update 1.2.5.0 addressed crafting from nearby chests for hosts when other players created bases nearby, as well as furniture and ship-appliance visibility issues. Update 1.3.1.0 records fixes for battery stacks with different charge levels, the secondary crafting-output count and stored objects at space stations.

If your symptoms resemble these cases, first confirm the installed version and compare the behavior in the current interface. A patch entry identifies a repaired case; it does not prove that every missing item or multiplayer synchronization problem has the same cause. Keep a record of the action, mode and host/client position if you need to report a remaining issue.

For the next session, choose one concrete goal: finish a checked recipe, try a blueprint, harvest a crop or visit an NPC settlement. The game supports exploration for its own sake as well as directed progression. There is no source-backed reason to forbid visiting an interesting star merely because no recipe currently requires it.
