Q What kind of game is it

A dark platforming adventure with a structure the developers describe directly: a sprawling, interconnected world opened by game changing abilities you unlock as you go. That is the Metroidvania shape, dressed in gothic horror.

You explore vast castles, treacherous forests and mysterious ruins, talk to locals, collect weapons, solve puzzles and fight bosses described as brutal. Combat is fast paced rather than deliberate.

It is single-player, released 19 June 2025 by Migami Games and published by PQube and PixelHeart, and it carries a Metacritic score of 75.

Q Who is Mateo Lombardo hunting

You play Mateo Lombardo, the last apprentice of the Rose Cross Order, on a quest to hunt the Beast of Gevaudan.

That is a real historical legend rather than an invented monster, which the developers describe as deep historical inspiration. A series of attacks in eighteenth century France produced one of the most famous beast stories in Europe, and the game takes it as its subject.

Knowing that changes how the setting reads. The forests and villages are period specific rather than generic fantasy, which is part of why the atmosphere lands.

Q Who made the voice work and music

This is where the game shows its influences openly, and the credits are specific enough to be worth listing.

RoleCredited to
NarrationRobert Belgrade, known for Alucard in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and for Tekken, Mega Man X7 and Soul Blade
Guest characterBloodless, voiced by Kira Buckland
SoundtrackJeffrey Montoya
Guest trackOscar Araujo, composer on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Lords of Shadow 2

Two of those four names come directly from the Castlevania series. If that lineage is what you are hoping for, the credits say so more plainly than any review could. There are also illustrated cutscenes.

Q Do I need a gamepad

The store carries a Gamepad Recommended tag
Full controller support is listed along with DualShock handling, and the feature list includes Gamepad Recommended. For a precision platformer with fast combat, that is a recommendation worth following from the start rather than after the first difficult section.

Keyboard play is possible, but the developers are indicating which input the game was tuned around.

Q Requirements and languages

ItemMinimum
OSWindows 7 or later
CPUDual core at 1.8 GHz
Memory1 GB
GraphicsIntel HD integrated graphics
Storage50 MB

Those numbers are worth reading twice. One gigabyte of memory, integrated graphics, and fifty megabytes of storage for a full length game with voice acting and an orchestral guest track. Practically any machine will run it, including old laptops.

Windows only, with no Mac or Linux build listed. Seven interface languages are covered including Japanese, Simplified Chinese, French, Italian, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. There are 16 achievements, one piece of downloadable content, and a free demo.
