1 What kind of game is it
Bloodthief is described as an ultra fast melee dungeon runner in which you use momentum to parkour through hazardous dungeons and slash through enemies. You speed run haunted crypts and castles and uncover what lies beneath them.
You play a vampire, and that is a mechanical fact rather than a costume. The blood of undead foes fuels your abilities and propels you to higher speeds, so movement and combat are deliberately intertwined rather than separate systems.
2 Do I need to be good at movement shooters
The developer is honest about this. The game is described as a challenging experience that invites you to learn deep and intertwined mechanics in order to progress, and one that will push you to your limits.
That said, there is a free demo, which makes the question answerable rather than theoretical. Twenty minutes will tell you whether the movement clicks for you, and movement games are unusually binary in that respect.
The reward is stated as clearly as the difficulty: the aim is that you finish feeling like the ultimate killing machine. If you have bounced off games where speed comes only from perfect execution, note that here speed also comes from choosing a better route.
3 How much content is in it
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Main levels | 30, plus secret and extra levels |
| Weapons | 20 collectable, each with unique perks |
| Secrets | Over 100 |
| Custom maps | User made, distributed through Steam Workshop |
| Achievements | 22 |
Two features extend that well past a single run through. Steam Leaderboards are supported, and you can race the ghost of a friend or of anyone in the world, which turns each of the 30 levels into a repeatable challenge.
Workshop support matters even more over time. Custom user maps mean the level count is a floor rather than a ceiling, which is unusual at this price.
4 How violent is it
Steam lists this game with content descriptors for frequent violence or gore and for general mature content. Given a premise built on slashing through enemies and drinking their blood, that is exactly what you would expect.
It is worth stating plainly rather than leaving to be discovered, because the bright, fast, arcade presentation can read as more cartoonish than the content actually is. Enemies are undead, so the violence is stylised, but it is constant.
There is no sexual content descriptor. If gore in a fast arcade context is acceptable to you, nothing else here is likely to be a concern.
5 Platforms, languages and requirements
Windows and Linux builds are both offered, with no macOS version. Eleven languages are supported, and Japanese is among them alongside English, French, German, Polish, Portuguese for Brazil, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish for Latin America, Ukrainian and Korean. English carries full audio.
Controller support is listed as partial, with DualShock and DualSense recognised. For a precision movement game, mouse and keyboard remains the natural choice.
| Part | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 7 or later, 64-bit | Windows 10 or later |
| CPU | 2.4 GHz quad core or higher | Core i5 or equivalent |
| Memory | 4 GB | 8 GB |
| Graphics | GeForce 10 series or equivalent, Vulkan or DirectX 12 required | A reasonably modern dedicated card, Vulkan recommended |
| Storage | 5 GB | 5 GB |
The one hard requirement to check is Vulkan or DirectX 12 support. Integrated graphics older than that will not run it regardless of how modest the other numbers look, and 4 GB of memory is otherwise a very low bar.
The only paid add-on is the soundtrack at USD 4.99, composed by Occams Laser.
Bloodthief is a single player ultra fast melee dungeon runner by Blargis, released September 2025 at USD 9.99 with a free demo. You play a vampire whose speed is fuelled by the blood of the undead, across 30 main levels plus secrets, with 20 weapons, over 100 hidden things, ghost racing, leaderboards and Steam Workshop maps. Windows and Linux are supported, eleven languages including Japanese, and Steam flags it for frequent violence or gore. Vulkan or DirectX 12 is the one hard requirement.
