1 What is different from the first game
The premise is the same idea taken further. You are shrunk to the size of an ant again, but the setting is no longer a backyard: this time it is a park, described as a world much larger than the one before.
Three additions stand out on the store page. You raise and ride insect companions called buggies, you choose an archetype that shapes your abilities, and there is a creation mode named Playgrounds.
It is developed by Obsidian Entertainment together with Eidos-Montreal and published by Xbox Game Studios, and it is Windows only on this store.
2 What are buggies
Buggies are insects you hatch, raise and ride. The developer introduces them under the heading that walking is bogus, which tells you their first purpose is transport across a much bigger map.
| Buggy role | What it means in play |
|---|---|
| Mount | Saddle up and ride through the park |
| Combatant | Command them in battle, fighting alongside you |
| Gatherer | Have them help collect resources |
The store states that the right partner could be the difference between thriving and barely surviving, so choosing and raising buggies is treated as a real progression decision rather than a cosmetic pet system.
3 Can I play it with friends
Yes. Single player and online co-op are both supported, and the design leans toward the second. The perils of the park are described as daunting alone and as an adventure with friends.
A shared world is mentioned explicitly, so a group can continue a journey together rather than restarting for each session. Full controller support and Steam Input API support are both listed, along with Family Sharing.
There are no Steam achievements listed at this stage, which is not unusual for a game still in Early Access.
4 What is Playgrounds
Playgrounds is a creation mode. It gives you tools to shape combat, puzzles and unpredictable encounters, so you can build your own challenges rather than only playing the ones supplied.
There is a community layer on top of it. You can download and play what other people have made and vote on it, which turns the park from a place to survive into a place to create.
5 Languages, add-ons and requirements
Twelve languages are supported and Japanese is among them, alongside English and French with full audio, Italian, German, Spanish for Spain and for Latin America, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Portuguese for Portugal and for Brazil, and Korean.
Two add-ons are listed: a Digital Artbook and Soundtrack application that will be updated through development, and a Founders Pack at USD 10.00. There is no free demo.
| Part | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 or 11 with updates | Same |
| CPU | Ryzen 5 2600 or Core i5-8400 | Ryzen 5 5600X or Core i7-10700K |
| Memory | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Graphics | RX 5700, GTX 1070 or Arc A580 | RX 6800 XT or RTX 3080 |
| Storage | 40 GB, DirectX 12 | 40 GB, DirectX 12 |
This is the most demanding game we have covered recently. Sixteen gigabytes of memory is required rather than recommended, and the gap between a GTX 1070 minimum and an RTX 3080 recommendation is very wide, so expect to choose between resolution and detail on older hardware.
Grounded 2 is an Early Access survival adventure from Obsidian Entertainment and Eidos-Montreal, published by Xbox Game Studios since July 2025 at USD 29.99. You are shrunk in a park rather than a backyard, with rideable insect buggies, archetypes that shape your abilities, base building that extends underwater, and a Playgrounds creation mode with community voting. It supports single player and online co-op, twelve languages including Japanese, and needs 16 GB of memory and 40 GB of storage.
