Learn the interaction and combat prompts first, then use the Hero Codex and acquisition sources to make deliberate choices. This starter route replaces assumptions about mandatory team roles or hidden story scaling with actions you can verify in the released game and the 1.0.10 to 1.0.12 notes.

Installation note: the developer specifies an SSD for an optimal experience and warns that an HDD can cause loading delays, texture pop-in, frame drops or crashes. Check your Steam library drive before troubleshooting.

1. Finish the interaction sequence the tutorial actually asks for

When the tree blocks progress, the developer instruction is to interact and then move forward. On default keyboard controls that is F and W; on the Xbox layout it is Y and a forward left-stick input. Learn the action rather than memorizing a key you may later rebind. The same principle helps with menus: watch the current prompt and the selected object before concluding that an interaction has failed. A documented two-part action should be tried before more disruptive troubleshooting.

2. Check the current lock-on controls

Update 1.0.11 reworks lock-on rather than merely adjusting a damage number. Default gamepad right-stick click toggles it, with left or right stick movement used for directional target changes. Keyboard TAB toggles lock-on and Caps Lock takes the previous target-switching function; additional directional bindings can be assigned. Learn the camera and target behavior on a straightforward encounter, and distinguish a custom control setup from a guide written before this update.

3. Learn Just Dodge before judging a hero rotation

A precisely timed dodge now has explicitly listed benefits, including brief invincibility, critical-hit uptime, Rage recovery and stamina-cost recovery. The Help menu includes a dedicated Just Dodge entry. This gives a beginner a concrete mechanic to practice instead of assuming every difficulty is caused by the team composition. Choose an enemy attack you can recognize, observe the successful trigger and return to ordinary movement when it does not trigger. No fixed real-world timing window is supplied by the patch note.

4. Read the skill chain without inventing a damage formula

The official game description ties Active Skills, status ailments, Signal Skills and switching into its tag-team combat. It does not establish that ordinary attacks deal no meaningful damage, that spreading ailments always fails or that each team must follow a rigid opener-builder-finisher template. Read the skills on the heroes you actually own and observe when the game offers a Signal opportunity. Try one understandable combination before replacing several heroes at once; that is a learning method rather than a mandatory build.

5. Preview a hero and check how it is acquired

Update 1.0.11 adds a combat-style preview in the Hero Codex. Update 1.0.10 also mentions acquisition cinematics for quest rewards and Exchange Shop purchases. Use the preview to see whether a hero fits how you want to play, then read its current acquisition route. The no-gacha purchase model does not require you to guess an unlock order or assume that every hero is already in the starting team. Avoid recommendations that promise a particular hero at a story point without a documented condition.

6. Use material sources rather than guessing a farming route

Update 1.0.11 adds obtainable dungeons to the source list for mining and gathering materials. That source information is more useful than an old generic instruction to gather everything everywhere. Look up the material you actually need, inspect the listed activity and decide whether it fits your current progress. The same patch fixes some equipment source displays that incorrectly pointed to unreleased dungeons. If a guide and the installed source list disagree, check the build before assuming you missed an unlocked area.

7. Explore, cook and read quests without assuming invisible penalties

Orbis includes side requests, cooking, Familiars and optional exploration. The 1.0.11 update makes cooking easier to browse by sorting dishes according to effect, and improves visibility of ongoing Hero Quests in the Hero Record section. Use those interfaces to choose a task or effect you understand. There is no basis here for asserting that advancing every story quest raises all enemy strength or permanently loses nearby discoveries. Separate a verified quest condition from a general habit of checking interesting locations.

8. Know when a guide is describing the next update

The October 8 preview schedules version 1.1 for October 15 with Ryza, Training Ground and Hunt changes among its topics. Those are not the baseline for learning the October 11 installed build. Keep your first-session plan centered on available tutorials, Just Dodge, the Hero Codex and current material sources. After an update lands, compare its final notes with the preview before revising a team or looking for a menu that was only announced. This also prevents a future feature from being mistaken for a missing unlock.
