1 Gold and the Starter Pack bonus
SEGA describes Gold as collected during gameplay and not sold separately. The Deluxe Starter Pack includes 2000 Gold, while patch 1.2 also introduces a purchase link for the SEGA Villains Stage DLC. Distinguish that DLC link and bundled bonus from a separate Gold top-up shop.
Gold is collected during gameplay and is not sold separately. Compare actual rewards and upgrade requirements rather than assuming every stage has one fixed Gold yield.
2 Pick Amulets against your death log
Amulets enhance abilities, and the useful question is not which is strongest but which removes the thing that keeps killing you.
| How you are dying | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Worn down by small hits | A relevant recovery effect confirmed in the owned Amulet description |
| Killed during long fights | Damage, so encounters end before your mistakes accumulate |
| Caught out of position | Anything that improves movement or reach |
| Falling rather than fighting | Nothing. That is a platforming problem, so slow down instead |
3 Bosses are pattern tests
In a hand drawn action game, a boss is a sequence of readable animations rather than a wall of health. The first attempt is reconnaissance whether you intend it to be or not.
Use the first try to survive rather than to win. Watch which attacks repeat, which ones have a long recovery, and where the safe side is. Use the next attempt to test one response to the pattern you just observed.
4 Spend Ninpo on the right problem
Read the selected Ninpo and its current availability before using it. Track what the action changes in that encounter rather than inferring a universal resource rule from its position in the arsenal.
The middle path is to spend it on situations that are genuinely worse than they look: a crowd that has surrounded you, a ranged enemy you cannot reach, or the phase of a boss where standing still is not survivable. Save a short note of situations where it helped so you can repeat a successful decision.
5 Where secrets tend to hide
Use the abilities you have unlocked to compare the routes you can currently reach. SEGA gives these examples in its official abilities breakdown:
- Cannon Punch can break barriers as well as armor and shields.
- Ninja Claws allow movement on certain walls and ceilings.
- Sword Dive can destroy Yokai Barrier floors.
- Ninja Hook uses hook anchors; the Glider can catch an updraft.
6 Difficulty is a tuning knob
Adjustable difficulty is listed on the store page. Lowering it while learning the arsenal, then raising it once switching between weapons is automatic, is a faster route to playing well than repeating the same stage at a setting that is fighting you.
7 The 29 achievements
The current Steam API lists 29 achievements. Their count alone does not tell you the individual conditions or prove that every extra mode has its own achievement.
The efficient order is to play through once while exploring properly, then read the list. Exploration driven entries are much cheaper to finish when you already know the stage layouts, and skill entries are easier once the combat is second nature. Steam Trading Cards are a separate listed feature; they should not be treated as proof of achievement completion.
8 Habits that cost you runs
| Habit | Fix |
|---|---|
| Using only the katana | Force kunai and Ninjutsu into your first stages so they are reflexes later |
| Rushing stages for time | Check the route and rewards you actually missed before replaying |
| Grinding at an obstacle you cannot pass | It is usually a missing Ningi tool. Note it and return |
| Hoarding Ninpo forever | An unused resource contributed nothing to the stage you struggled through |
| Playing on keyboard by default | A gamepad is recommended, and a keyboard only option exists for those who need it |
Hardcore changes the comparison
Hardcore is selected when starting a new game. The free-update announcement describes altered enemy damage, healing and placement, with new attack patterns for bosses; the 1.2 note qualifies the new patterns as applying to certain bosses. Do not treat it as a normal run with only a larger damage multiplier.
If a strategy from an earlier run stops working, first identify the mode and the attack sequence you are facing. In Hardcore, retrying the same timing from a different difficulty may compare two different patterns. Use the tutorial review for previously seen mechanics and test the effects or outline settings if visibility is the problem.
The paid SEGA Villains Stage content separately includes two Boss Rush modes featuring its new bosses. Their presence is not evidence that an ordinary base-game save has been converted to Hardcore. Keep a base-game practice goal, a Hardcore new run and DLC Boss Rush goals distinct when tracking progress. Gold is not sold separately, and the paid Starter Pack bonus should be distinguished from the current DLC purchase link. Choose Amulets against how you are actually dying, treat a first boss attempt as reconnaissance, and spend Ninpo on situations that are worse than they look. Match barriers, climbable surfaces and hook anchors to the corresponding unlocked Ningi. For Hardcore, start a new game and expect changes to placement, healing and certain boss patterns.
