1 What Replanted is
A remaster of the original Plants vs. Zombies, the 2009 tower defence game that started the series. PopCap Games and The Lost Pixels developed it, and Electronic Arts publishes.
The store describes it as the classic returning in HD after years in the attic, remastered with upscaled graphics and packed with new secrets, new levels and fresh twists, plus fifteen years of franchise history to look through.
The core game is the one people remember. You plant defences along five lanes, zombies walk toward your house, and sunlight is the currency that pays for everything.
2 What is new compared with the original
The store page carries a section headed with the question of what is new versus the 2009 Game of the Year edition, and names four things.
| Addition | What is stated |
|---|---|
| Upscaled HD graphics | The visual work, described as bigger and brighter |
| New levels | Named but not detailed on the page |
| New secrets and fresh twists | Also named without specifics, which is presumably deliberate |
| Franchise history | Fifteen years of never before seen material to browse |
We are quoting rather than expanding, because the page genuinely does not itemise the new levels. If the amount of new content is your reason to buy, look for current coverage rather than relying on this description.
3 Is there online multiplayer
No. The categories list multiplayer, PvP, co-op and shared or split screen for all of them, plus Remote Play Together. There is no online PvP or online co-op entry.
4 Do you need to know the original
No. This is the game that started the series, so there is nothing earlier to have played, and the campaign introduces every plant and every zombie one at a time.
That gradual introduction is the reason the original is still held up as a teaching example of tower defence design. Each new level adds exactly one idea, and by the time the game is difficult you have learned everything it uses.
5 Price, platform and languages
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Released | 23 October 2025 |
| List price | USD 19.99 |
| Developer and publisher | PopCap Games and The Lost Pixels, published by Electronic Arts |
| Achievements | 37 |
| Languages | Eight, including English, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese |
Full controller support with DualShock and DualSense, plus Steam Cloud saves. No in-app purchases are listed, which is worth noting for a series whose later mobile entries were built around them.
6 System requirements
Very light. The minimum is Windows 10 64-bit, an FX-6300 or third generation Core i3, 4 GB of memory, Intel integrated graphics, DirectX 11 and 4 GB of storage.
The recommended tier asks for a Core i5 6600 with 8 GB of memory and a Radeon HD 7730 or GeForce GT 640. A remaster that still runs on integrated graphics will work on essentially any laptop, which suits a game people play in short sittings.
7 Is it suitable for children
The developer declares no content descriptors. Despite the subject, the presentation is cartoon comedy: the zombies are goofy, nothing is realistic, and the tone is closer to a picture book than to horror.
The local co-op mode and the very light requirements make it a reasonable choice for playing alongside a younger family member, which is a large part of why the original endured.
8 Who this suits
| Good fit if | Poor fit if |
|---|---|
| You never played the original, or want it in HD | You already own it and only want the new levels |
| You want something to play beside someone on the same screen | You expected online multiplayer |
| You like puzzle style strategy in short sessions | You want a long modern campaign |
A remaster of the 2009 original by PopCap and The Lost Pixels for EA, with upscaled HD visuals, new levels, new secrets and fifteen years of franchise history, though the page does not itemise the new content. Multiplayer is local only, in both cooperative and competitive forms, with Remote Play Together as the way to include a distant friend. USD 19.99, 37 achievements, eight languages, no in-app purchases, no content descriptors, and it runs on integrated graphics.
