S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat Enhanced Edition FAQ
The final chapter of the trilogy. Whether you can start here, what Enhanced changed, and what is new in the Zone.

1 Which game is this

This listing is Call of Prypiat, described by GSC Game World as the powerful and unforgettable conclusion to the Legends of the Zone Trilogy. It follows special service agent Major Degtyarev as he investigates the fate of a lost expedition.

The store description opens by announcing that the trilogy returns, which can read as though all three games are included. They are not. This is one game, the third one, and the opening paragraph is describing the enhanced trilogy programme in general.

2 Can you start with this one

Yes, and many people do. It has a self contained investigation, a new protagonist and its own set of locations, so nothing about the structure requires the earlier chapters.

It is also widely regarded as the most approachable of the three, because it is the most polished and the least punishing about the basics. What you lose by starting here is the accumulated background, not the ability to follow what is happening.

A reasonable entry point
If you want to try the series and are not sure you will like it, this chapter asks less of a new player than the first one does while offering the same atmosphere.

3 Where it takes place

GSC names four areas, and they are described as previously inaccessible core regions of the Zone.

AreaCharacter
ZatonMarshlands, open and exposed
JupiterAn abandoned industrial complex to investigate
PrypiatThe ghostly remains of the city itself
UndergroundLong forgotten catacombs, sealed away for ages

Fewer, larger areas is the structural difference from the first game. You return to the same regions repeatedly rather than moving forward through a corridor of maps, which is why side stories matter more here.

4 New dangers: emissions, Chimera and Burer

Three threats are named specifically. Sudden emissions, which you must seek cover from. The Chimera, described as a stealthy alpha predator. And the Burer, whose telekinetic abilities turn shadowed undergrounds into a nightmare.

Emissions are the one that changes how you plan a trip. A hazard that arrives on its own schedule and requires shelter means that knowing where shelter is becomes as important as knowing where the loot is.

5 What Enhanced changed

The same package of work applied across the trilogy: image based lighting improvements including god rays, dynamic screen space reflections and advanced global illumination, redesigned water shaders, upgraded skyboxes and wetness effects, upscaled textures with more detailed characters and environments, upgraded weapon field of view and models, multiple bugfixes and quality of life tweaks, and full gamepad support.

Full gamepad support is again the change that widens who can play it, since the original assumed keyboard and mouse.

6 Content notice

The developer notice is the same across the trilogy and is specific. The gameplay revolves around shooting and eliminating enemies, both human-like figures and mutated creatures, with blood and violent scenes depicted. Enemies may sometimes explode as a result of weapon effects or anomalies. The player character can also consume alcohol throughout the game.

8 System requirements

The minimum targets 1080p at 60 frames per second on the low preset with a Core i3-7100 or Ryzen 3 1300X, 8 GB of memory and a GTX 960 or RX 560, needing 10 GB of storage.

The recommended tier targets the same resolution and frame rate at maximum settings with a Core i5-6600K or Ryzen 5 1600X and a GTX 1060 or RX 580. Both tiers state the preset, resolution and target frame rate, which makes them genuinely useful numbers.

Summary

The third chapter of the Legends of the Zone Trilogy, sold on its own despite an opening line about the trilogy returning. You play Major Degtyarev investigating a lost expedition across Zaton, Jupiter, Prypiat and the underground, facing emissions that force you into shelter plus new mutants including the Chimera and the Burer. It is a reasonable entry point for newcomers, costs USD 19.99, has 47 achievements and Steam Workshop support, and carries the same specific notice about violence and alcohol.
