Super Battle Golf is easy to pick up, but a lot is happening at once. This guide uses the developer patch notes on Steam, the store page, Wikipedia, Gaming Age, the Japanese sites AUTOMATON and GameWith for the mouse controls, and the official achievement list, which confirms several mechanics that reviews do not mention. Everything here is a rule or feature you can check, not a guess about the best strategy. Buying questions are on the FAQ page.
1 Controls
| Action | Mouse and keyboard | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Shot angle | Mouse wheel | GameWith |
| Swing | Hold left click to charge power, release to shoot | GameWith, AUTOMATON |
| Homing shot | Hold right click to lock on to a player; the ball curves toward them | AUTOMATON |
Steam lists full controller support; check the gamepad layout in the settings. Movement includes jumping and diving: the achievement Frog Legs asks for a 100 meter horizontal leap, and the April patch notes mention knockback from other players dives.
2 A hole, step by step
No turns. Pick an angle and power and go.
Run, or take a golf cart that seats up to eight players.
The store describes collecting items to stop friends getting points on the way to the hole.
Gaming Age notes that players drop out of participation once their ball is in the hole.
Holes can go to overtime, since the achievement Snail's Pace is for finishing a hole during overtime. Longer holes have respawn checkpoints, as Living on the Edge asks you to finish a par 5 or longer without activating any. Since April, holes in the Match Setup menu are labelled by difficulty.
3 Knockouts and immunity shields
A knocked-out player cannot move for a while, according to AUTOMATON, and Wikipedia notes that hitting opponents with your club gives you a temporary speed boost. The April patch notes added several protections so the same player is not knocked out over and over.
| Rule | What happens |
|---|---|
| After respawning | You get a knockout immunity shield |
| Three knockouts within 30 seconds | An orange shield with a longer duration |
| Dominated by a player on a streak of six or more | A red shield that blocks knockouts from that player only |
| Knocking out someone you already dominate | No speed boost; a white flag shows above them |
| Shielded players | Cannot be locked on to with swing projectiles or Rocket Launchers |
A hotfix on 16 April made white flags, orange shields and red shields optional in lobby settings, so rules can differ between lobbies. You can also get even: Best Served Cold is an achievement for ten revenge knockouts.
4 Homing shots and how to dodge them
Homing shots can be avoided. Catlike Reflexes is an achievement for evading 50 incoming homing shots, and One With the Shadows is for vanishing with a Smoke Bomb to escape a homing shot or an Orbital Laser. Standing on the green is risky: Goalie rewards knocking out 50 opponents with a club on the green, so expect someone to wait for you near the hole.
5 Course hazards
| Hazard | Detail and source |
|---|---|
| Sand, lakes, vegetation, mines | On every course (store). Foliage slows shots and can hide you (Tiger in the Woods, Lying in Wait) |
| Deep water | You can push opponents in (Walk the Plank); a Freeze Bomb turns water into an ice platform |
| Wind | Light breeze by default since April; the host can turn it off or raise it in Match Setup |
| Jump pads | Added in April |
| Ice | On Snow holes, shots slide farther than expected (Operation Sports) |
| Traffic | Moving vehicles on City holes since July |
6 Teams mode
Added in July, Teams mode splits the lobby into Red and Blue. The patch notes explain scoring: on each hole, the team with the most scoring players earns a team point, and the team with more team points over the course wins. Players are protected from knockouts and eliminations by teammates, so there is no reason to hold back against the other team.
7 Lobbies, vote kicks and your first sessions
Public lobbies use vote kicking. Since the 16 April hotfix, players must have been in a lobby for 15 minutes before they can start or join a vote, the host can veto any vote, and the host can still kick players directly in the Driving Range. Wind strength is set in the Match Setup menu, and the shield options are lobby settings, so a private lobby with friends can use gentler or harsher rules.
It unlocks Ready for the Big Leagues.
Try angles and power, and climb the Golf Shop for Head in the Clouds.
Gaming Age recommends at least two or three friends; a private lobby lets you set gentler rules while learning.
Match the game branch before joining friends
An optional networking beta runs from 23 October to 2 November 2026. Beta players and regular-release players see different lobbies. If a friend cannot find your room, compare branches before changing lobby rules. The test prepares for future crossplay; an Epic account is not required.
To join, open the game Properties in Steam, choose Game Versions & Betas, select the beta branch and let the download finish. To return, select Default Public Version. Everyone in a group must use the same branch.
The regular 1.3.1-750 patch only added a one-time beta announcement at startup. Seeing that notice does not mean you have joined the test. Restart Steam or verify files if the update is missing.

Aim with the mouse wheel, hold left click for power and right click for a homing shot. Everyone tees off at once, chases their ball, grabs items and races to hole out. Knockouts stop players for a while and speed up the attacker, while immunity shields protect players who keep getting hit. Watch for foliage, water, wind, jump pads, ice and City traffic. In Teams mode the side with more scoring players wins each hole, and public lobbies use a 15 minute vote kick rule.
