Keep on Mining! Talent and Upgrade Tips
Keeping ahead of rising rock health, choosing between three cards, and knowing when to stop.

1 The one real decision

Most of this game is a straightforward upward curve. The skill tree makes you stronger, better pickaxes make you stronger, The Mine works while you are away.

The talent cards are the only place where a choice can actually go wrong, because taking one raises rock health as well as your talent level. Everything else is a matter of order; this is a matter of judgement.

2 Judge a card against the health it costs

Since the health increase happens regardless of which of the three cards you keep, the question is never whether a card is good in isolation. It is whether the best of the three offered is worth the cost that comes with taking any of them.

If the best card isThen
A multiplier on mining power or yieldTake it. It outruns the health increase it causes
A small flat bonusWeakest case. You are paying tougher rocks for very little
Something affecting the mining areaUsually strong, because it changes how many pickaxes work at once

If you are holding points and your current mining power is comfortably ahead of rock health, spending is cheap. If rocks are already slow to break, be pickier.

3 Multiply, do not add

In any incremental game the upgrades that scale with what you already have beat the ones that add a fixed amount. Here that means anything touching rocks per minute, ore per rock, or the size of the mining area.

Flat bonuses feel good early and stop mattering within an hour. Multipliers keep paying for the entire run, which is why the skill tree should be read as a list of multipliers with some noise around them.

4 Spread across materials deliberately

There is a variety of different material rocks to be mined, and crafting pickaxes uses different materials. That means being extremely rich in one material and unable to craft anything is a real and common failure.

When a craft or an upgrade is blocked, switch what you are mining rather than continuing on the material you already have too much of. The blocked recipe is the game telling you where to go.

5 Getting to The Mine faster

The Mine automatically mines and instantly crafts bars, which removes both halves of the manual loop at once. Everything before it is, in a sense, setup.

Prioritise throughput over comfort
Until The Mine exists, every upgrade should be judged on how much sooner it gets you there rather than on how nice it feels. Afterwards you can buy whatever you like.

6 After the idle layer arrives

Once The Mine is working the game changes shape. Progress continues without you, so your active sessions become about spending accumulated bars well rather than about generating them.

A good rhythm is to check in, craft, spend, take any talent points that are waiting, and leave again. Sitting and watching an idle layer produce numbers is the least efficient thing you can do with your own time.

7 The 22 achievements

Twenty two entries on a game of this size will be milestone based: quantities mined, materials discovered, upgrades bought, systems unlocked.

Nothing here needs a strategy. Play normally, unlock The Mine, keep the game open occasionally, and the list completes itself. If any entry does require something unusual, it will be visible in the list once most of the ordinary ones have gone.

8 Habits that stall progress

HabitWhy it costs you
Hovering over a single rockEvery rock in the area spawns a pickaxe, so you are running at a fraction of capacity
Letting ore pile up uncraftedOnly bars buy upgrades
Taking talent cards instantlyEach one raises rock health, so a weak pick actively slows you down
Mining one material onlyPickaxe crafting needs several, and you will stall on the one you ignored
Buying flat bonusesThey stop mattering while multipliers keep compounding
Summary

Talent cards are the only place a choice can go wrong, because taking one raises rock health whichever you pick, so judge the best of the three against that cost. Favour multipliers over flat bonuses, and treat mining area upgrades as multipliers because they add pickaxes. Mine several materials so pickaxe crafting never stalls, aim everything at unlocking The Mine, and after that check in to spend rather than sitting and watching.
