1 Build around the energy meter
Fluid Detonation triggers when your energy peaks and wipes the field in a flash. Any system with a meter that pays out at full changes what a good build looks like.
The same logic explains why the movement ability matters offensively. Weaving through a group keeps you in range, and being in range is what generates energy.
2 Memocards should chain, not sit
Memocards are described as combining with weapons and skills to chain dazzling combos. The word chain is doing real work there: they are meant to connect to each other rather than to be a list of independent bonuses.
| Card type | How to treat it |
|---|---|
| Flat improvement | Useful filler. Take it when nothing connects, replace it when something does |
| Conditional | Only as good as your ability to create the condition reliably |
| Enabling | Anything that lets one action lead into another. This is what the set should be built from |
3 Weapon switching as a combo extender
Seamless switching mid combat is rarer than it sounds, and it exists for a reason. In games with this feature, swapping usually resets whatever recovery the previous weapon owed you.
The practical experiment is simple. Attack with one weapon until the combo naturally ends, then switch instead of stopping, and see whether the follow up connects. If it does, you have found the extension the system was built to allow.
4 Making stance breaks reliable
Every guardian is described as having unique attacks and mechanics, and as being able to destroy you in a heartbeat. The parry is not one option among several, it is the intended solution.
If a boss is beating you repeatedly, the useful question is which attack you are failing to recognise rather than whether your build is strong enough.
5 Backtracking with intent
Returning to earlier zones is described as revealing secrets behind illusory walls and locked gates, along with shortcuts and unexpected treasures. The efficient way to do this is not to wander.
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| You gain a new ability | Immediately think about which obstacle type it answers, then revisit those places |
| You find a shortcut | Open it even when you do not need it. Shortcuts pay off on the return trip you have not planned yet |
| A wall looks suspicious | Illusions are named as a feature of this Citadel. A wall that seems out of place probably is |
| You are stuck | Go somewhere you could not previously reach rather than searching where you already are |
6 Allies and the ending
Aiding other students earns their loyalty as allies, and the store connects those choices directly to saving the Academy and deciding your fate.
Do the student content when you find it, not later. Games that tie side stories to an ending usually gate them behind progress points, and returning after the plot has moved on is often too late.
With 40 achievements listed, a portion of them almost certainly relate to these characters, which is a second reason not to skip them.
7 Mistakes that stall a playthrough
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Treating the parry as optional | It is the designed answer to guardians. Learn one attack per boss to parry |
| Collecting Memocards without a plan | Build a set where each piece enables the next |
| Sticking to one weapon | Switching is seamless and mid combat for a reason. Use it to extend |
| Trying to finish a zone before advancing | Impossible by design. Return when you have the ability that opens it |
| Skipping the other students | Their stories are tied to the ending and to achievements |
Build for uptime rather than burst, because Fluid Detonation rewards staying in the fight and filling the meter. Choose Memocards that enable each other instead of collecting flat bonuses, and test whether a mid combat weapon switch extends a combo past its natural end. Against guardians, pick one telegraphed attack to parry and dodge everything else, then commit fully in the bullet time window. Backtrack by obstacle type rather than by location, open shortcuts even when they seem unnecessary, and treat the student side stories as main content, since the store ties them to the ending.
