How Many Dudes? asks questions like how many dudes it takes to beat a gorilla, a thousand toddlers or a god, and then lets you find out. You recruit an ever growing army, choose which kinds of dude to field, and watch the battle play out on its own. It comes from Butterscotch Shenanigans, the studio behind the Crashlands games. This page answers the common questions. For building a team, see the team building guide, and for stars, bosses and achievements, see the progression guide.
1 What kind of game is it
The store calls it a roguelike dudebuilder about game breaking synergies and simulated chaos. In practice it is an autobattler: the decisions happen while you build your team, and once a battle starts the dudes fight by themselves. Life Meets Pixel notes that you can still act from the sidelines with abilities such as heals, stuns and damage on a short cooldown.
2 How a run works
Sirus Gaming describes the opening: you begin with a single Regular Dude facing ten toddlers. Between rounds you earn money, recruit more dudes, pick up items and add new dude types through flyers until your team has five distinct types. Enemy waves escalate from toddlers to wolves, gorillas and eventually gods, according to the store, with act bosses along the way.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Early rounds | A handful of dudes against small enemies |
| Act bosses | Tests of your team synergy that award trinkets |
| Late rounds | Life Meets Pixel describes armies of more than a hundred dudes by round 86 |
Sirus Gaming counts six acts across more than a hundred rounds to reach the final boss. Life Meets Pixel adds that long battles are split into chunks you can pause between, which is part of why it works on a phone.
3 Dude families
There are 42 unique dude types split into six families. The store gives examples of what they do: zombie dudes explode when struck, ninja dudes throw shurikens, and cowboy dudes lasso other dudes out of danger. It also claims more than 850,000 possible team compositions.
4 Relics and trinkets
These are the two item layers, and they work differently.
5 Tiers, stars and modes
The store lists three tiers of challenge, each adding unique enemies and bosses. Beating bosses earns silver and gold stars for each dude, and mastering every dude is the long term goal. Sirus Gaming notes that lower tiers must be cleared before dude types unlock in higher tiers.
| Mode | What it is |
|---|---|
| Standard | The main run through acts and tiers |
| The Daily Dude | A fixed daily setup everyone plays |
| Ensemble Mode | Pre-select your dream team of dude types |
Sirus Gaming also mentions a Rematch mode for replaying battles you lost.
6 Platforms, requirements and languages
It launched on 30 July 2026 on Windows, iOS and Android. On PC it is played with the mouse only, and on mobile with touch only. The PC requirements are tiny: a 2.0 GHz processor, 2 GB of memory, 512 MB of video memory and 500 MB of storage. A free demo was available at launch according to Life Meets Pixel, and the store lists two DLC.
Supported languages are English with full audio, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese and Spanish (Latin America).
