Voidling Bound takes the monster taming formula and changes the point of view. Instead of commanding creatures from the side, you become a Space Wrangler who takes direct control of creatures called Voidlings and fights as them in a third person shooter. This page answers the common questions. For raising a strong team, see the beginner guide, and for the Abyss and achievements, see the progression guide.

1 What kind of game is it

An action RPG from Hatchery Games, listed under Action, Adventure and RPG. The store describes shooting, slashing, slamming and blasting, with evading, blocking and parrying, plus sprinting, jumping and dashing across planets, and ultimate abilities you charge and unleash. Around that combat sits a collection game: hatch eggs, evolve creatures along branching paths, breed them and customise their genes.

Fight as them
Each Voidling has its own primary and secondary attacks, melee, dodge and an ultimate.
Evolve them
Branching evolutions change element, appearance, playstyle and abilities.
Breed them
Combine natures and attributes for stronger offspring.

2 How many Voidlings are there

Nine species, which is far fewer than traditional creature collectors. Steam Deck HQ and I Dream of Indie both give that number, and the official achievement list has a discovery achievement for exactly nine: Kwipeck, Gilick, Kerapin, Gwigoon, Nimiod, Anami, Ur-Sek, Packuran and Morfang.

Depth instead of breadth
Each species evolves into different elemental variants with their own playstyle. Steam Deck HQ counts around 30 evolution paths in total. Nine creatures still means many distinct builds, and each plays like its own character in a shooter.

3 What you do in a mission

The store describes cleansing handcrafted planets overrun by corruption and surviving arenas to find resources, research points, eggs and mutagens. I Dream of Indie describes two mission types and typical lengths.

Mission typeWhat happens
Corruption CleansingExplore, burst corrupted growths and fight bosses
SurvivalWave based fights, usually ending in a boss
Typical lengthAbout 10 to 20 minutes, with stars for faster clears

Missions award stars, and the achievements go up to earning 44 Mission Stars. I Dream of Indie notes that levels hide eggs, including golden eggs that count toward your star total.

4 How creatures get stronger

There are several layers, and the store names them all. Voidlings level up and you assign attribute points to strength, vitality, essence, recuperation or agility. Research unlocks deeper ability upgrades. Evolution uses mutagens. Breeding combines natures and attributes, and hatching can produce rare natures. Genes for body parts, colours, eyes and abilities, plus mutated perks, let you craft specimens that combine your discoveries.

Steam Deck HQ adds two details: each creature has a level cap of 20, and splicing perks onto a Voidling prevents it from being used for breeding. The beginner guide explains how to plan around that.

5 Is there co-op or an endgame

It is single player only; the store lists no multiplayer categories. The endgame is the Abyss, where you descend through ever increasing challenges and, after each victory, choose to go deeper for greater rewards or retreat to safety. Corrupted DNA Catalyzers push creature statistics further. The achievements run to Abyss level 50, and Steam Deck HQ describes the Abyss as better than the standard missions.

The Abyss is the endgame, running to level 50 in the achievements. Reviewers praise the combat and designs but note repetitive missions, a thin story and balance issues. An SSD is required.
