TerraTech Legion comes from Payload Studios, the team behind the original TerraTech, and is published by Mythwright. It takes the block based vehicle building the series is known for and drops it into a survivors style roguelite, where swarms of AI bots attack and you respond by bolting on wheels, boosters, buzzsaws and lasers. This page covers the common questions. For building a vehicle that works, see the building guide, and for planets and achievements, see the progression guide.
1 What kind of game is it
The store calls it a chaotic bullet heaven builder. As in other survivors style games, enemies swarm you and your attacks fire automatically. The difference is that your character is a vehicle, called a Tech, and the upgrades you earn are physical blocks you attach. The store lists more than 200 blocks across weapons, propulsion and utility.
2 How a run works
You drive around a planet destroying bots. Defeating enemies earns experience, and levelling up gives you new blocks. Roundtable Co-Op stresses that blocks are installed by hand rather than applied as passive buffs, and TheSixthAxis notes you can reconfigure your vehicle when you level up. Planets are crawling with bots, outposts and factories, and each builds toward a planetary boss.
3 Characters and corporations
The store says each of four TerraTech corporations brings its own blocks and abilities, and each of four characters has a starter build and playstyle. Roundtable Co-Op describes them unlocking progressively.
| Character | Playstyle (store and Roundtable Co-Op) |
|---|---|
| Mikela Craft | Stuns enemies and rerolls luck for rarer blocks |
| Jean-Pierre Grandier | Hits hard, built for impact and ramming |
| Sam Ashida | Phases through enemies and leans on critical hits |
| Cepheid Swan | Drifts through battle leaving a plasma trail |
The achievement names link three of them to corporations: GeoCorp Champion unlocks Jean-Pierre, Hawkeye Supersoldier unlocks Sam, and Better Future Feature unlocks Cepheid. Mikela has no unlock achievement in the list.
4 How progression works
Between missions you upgrade skills, and each character has a skill tree. Roundtable Co-Op explains that stars gate progress: they come from objectives such as destroying a set number of Legion outposts or defeating a planetary boss, and they unlock new planets. The achievement list confirms 48 stars in total.
5 Modes and content
| Content | Detail |
|---|---|
| Planets | Dustbowl, Rotwater Basin, Icebound Hollow, Magma Hellscape |
| Difficulty | Levels 1 to 3 per planet in the achievements |
| Survive | Endless onslaught with no checkpoints and a high score |
| Corrupted blocks | Special blocks named in the achievements |
Roundtable Co-Op describes it as a good fit for thirty to sixty minutes of play at a time. The store lists two DLC.
6 What reviewers said
7 Requirements, platforms and languages
The minimum listing is Windows 10, an Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 5 1400, 16 GB of memory, a GTX 970 or RX 570 with 4 GB, and 7 GB of storage. The recommended tier is blank on the store, and the developer notes that minimum requirements may change over the course of development.
TheSixthAxis lists PC and Xbox Series X and S. Full controller support and Steam Trading Cards are listed on Steam. Eleven languages are supported, including Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Polish and Turkish. It is single player.
TerraTech Legion is a single player bullet heaven from Payload Studios at a list price of USD 9.99, where levelling up gives blocks you attach by hand to a vehicle. Placement, weight, balance and firing arcs all matter. Four characters tied to TerraTech corporations offer different starter builds, and 48 stars from objectives unlock four planets with three difficulty levels plus an endless Survive mode. Reviewers praise the building but note runs can feel similar. It needs 16 GB of memory at minimum.
