In most survivors style games an upgrade is a number that goes up. In TerraTech Legion it is a physical block you have to put somewhere, and where you put it changes how the vehicle drives and fights. Roundtable Co-Op notes that the game does not explain this loop in detail, which is exactly why a guide helps. Facts here come from the store page, the achievement list, and reviews at TheSixthAxis and Roundtable Co-Op.
1 Every level up is a design decision
Destroying bots earns experience, and each level up offers new blocks. Roundtable Co-Op stresses that these are installed manually, and TheSixthAxis notes that levelling is also when you can reconfigure the whole layout. A level up is therefore a pause to think about the vehicle, not just a stat choice.
2 Firing arcs and line of sight
TheSixthAxis points out that weapons have ranges and firing arcs, and that placement matters so you do not block your own attacks. Roundtable Co-Op likewise notes that line of sight affects damage output. A laser mounted behind a tall block is a laser that rarely fires.
3 Weight, balance and steering
The store says weight, balance and whether you can actually steer all come into play. Roundtable Co-Op adds that each driver starts with a different wheelbase, from light and twitchy to lumbering multi axle treads. TheSixthAxis mentions choosing wheel types and adding extra wheels.
| Symptom | Likely fix |
|---|---|
| Slow and sluggish | More wheels or propulsion for the added weight |
| Pulls to one side | Mirror heavy blocks on the other side |
| Hard to turn | Move mass toward the centre rather than the ends |
4 The four damage types
The achievement list names four weapon damage types, each with an achievement for reaching 1,000 DPS from that type alone. That makes them useful build targets.
The corrupted Flux Converter blocks named in the achievements come in Energy, Ballistic and Explosive versions, which suggests that committing to one type is rewarded.
5 Survival: health, regen and boost
Damage alone does not finish a planet. The achievement list sets survival targets that double as good benchmarks for a sturdy Tech: total health of 1,000, health regeneration of at least 10 per second, and a boost that lasts 5 seconds. Each character also has a distinct boost ability according to TheSixthAxis, so boost is both an escape and part of your character kit.
6 Picking a driver
| Driver | Build that suits them |
|---|---|
| Mikela Craft | Laser cannons and a stun boost; rerolls help her find rare blocks |
| Jean-Pierre Grandier | Impact and ramming, with an armoured boost |
| Sam Ashida | Critical hits, phasing while boosting, a detonator ultimate |
| Cepheid Swan | High speed drifting that leaves a plasma trail |
Details beyond the store description come from Roundtable Co-Op. Each driver has a skill tree upgraded between missions, and the achievements reward fully upgrading every one, so rotating drivers is encouraged rather than a distraction.
7 Three build archetypes
Weapons on every edge, arcs covering all sides, enough wheels to keep moving. Suits Mikela or Sam.
Mass and blades at the front, health and propulsion behind. Suits Jean-Pierre.
Light frame, many boosters, damage that trails behind you. Suits Cepheid.
Treat each level up as a design decision and choose blocks that fit the Tech you are building. Keep weapons on the edges with arcs covering different directions, and fix sluggish or lopsided handling with wheels, propulsion and mirrored weight. Aim for one of the four damage types, Ballistic, Energy, Area or Impact, and use 1,000 health, 10 regen per second and a 5 second boost as survival benchmarks before bosses. Match the build to your driver and rotate drivers to grow every skill tree.
