Horripilant is built around repetition: grow stronger, go deeper, start again stronger still. The store puts it as repeat, adapt and survive. This page explains the systems that carry progress across those repeats and groups the official Steam achievement list by goal. Seventeen achievements hide their descriptions; they appear to follow puzzle and story discoveries, so this page lists their names without guessing at solutions. The rebirth details come from WayTooManyGames.
1 Rebirth
Rebirth is the prestige system. WayTooManyGames describes it as resetting progress in exchange for permanent perks: cheaper upgrades, higher starting stats and the ability to carry some resources into the next life. The Become Anew achievement marks your first rebirth.
2 Hemalith
Hemalith is a blood themed resource that appears only in the achievement list among our sources. Two achievements show how it is used: Blood Thirsty for exchanging materials for a Hemalith boost, and Temporary Boost for exchanging Hemalith for temporary strength. A ladder of five achievements tracks the total you gain.
| Achievement | Total Hemalith gained |
|---|---|
| Bloody Power I | 10 |
| Bloody Power II | 100 |
| Bloody Power III | 1,000 |
| Bloody Power IV | 5,000 |
| Bloody Power V | 10,000 |
3 Do this one early
Naturally Skilled asks you to reach floor 10 without dying, without giving up and without rebirth. Every one of those is something you will do constantly later, so the cleanest chance is a deliberate early attempt, before rebirth becomes part of your routine.
4 Economy achievements
| Goal | Achievements |
|---|---|
| First materials | Twig Collector (wood), Rock and Stone (rock), Fancy Metal (iron) |
| Click power | Click I, II, III at 10, 250 and 2,500 per click |
| Production | Production I, II, III at 10, 1,000 and 100,000 per second |
| Upgrades | Greater Capacity (first storage), Power in Numbers (first upgrade level) |
| Skills | Skill Expertise (max a skill), Jack of All Trades (a level in every skill) |
5 Combat and familiars
Dropped Meat, for crawling out of battle and losing meat, will come naturally. Meet god. and Nice try., where god will not be defeated so easily, are story beats you reach by descending.
6 Discoveries and the hidden list
Some achievements reward small curiosity: It's dark in here... for turning off the campfire, and one titled Oh... oh no... whose description only says you did it by mistake. The 17 hidden achievements carry names that read like a sequence of openings, which fits the puzzles around camp that reviewers say unlock new dungeon rooms.
| Theme of the name | Hidden achievements |
|---|---|
| Gates and doors | A set of doors., A gate opens..., Another gate.., Yet another gate..., A door opens., Another opening..., The Final Gate |
| Camp and mechanisms | I hear crumbling..., Rusted Pipes, Slotted In, Cold-blooded |
| Story | No Longer in Limbo, No longer blind., Another Plane, The Angels Sing Again, The Final Passage, Made your choice. |
The grouping is by name only; the game does not describe them. Made your choice. hints at a decision near the end, so it may be worth saving before anything that looks final.
Rebirth resets progress for permanent perks such as cheaper upgrades and better starting stats, so use it when progress stalls. Hemalith can be bought with materials and spent on temporary strength, with achievements up to 10,000 gained. Attempt Naturally Skilled, floor 10 without dying, giving up or rebirthing, early. Economy achievements track clicks, production, storage and skills, combat ones track kills to 100,000 and floor 1,000, and familiars have four. The 17 hidden achievements follow gates, doors and story discoveries.
