Romestead is an Early Access survival adventure for one to eight players, with settlement building, physical resource transport and dungeon exploration. The most important save question is whether your world was generated before the Autumn dungeon update. This FAQ distinguishes that issue from the October seasonal event and explains the currently released multiplayer and controller support.
- What can I play now, and what remains in development?
- How many players can join a world?
- Do I have to delete an old world after updating?
- Does the October event require a new world?
- Can I use a controller or Steam Deck?
- Why do logs and ore behave differently from normal inventory?
- What do citizens and the gods add to progression?
- Which recent fixes should I check before reporting a problem?
1. What can I play now, and what remains in development?
The store lists Early Access and a May 25, 2026 release. Gathering, settlements, farming, citizens, gods and dungeon combat are part of the current description. The released Autumn update and October event add specific features; the next biome discussed in studio updates remains development work. Read applied patch notes before planning around a new enemy, building tier or boss from concept art. The October source check lists the US regular base price as $13.99, which is different from a temporary sale amount.

2. How many players can join a world?
Romestead supports one to eight players and scales difficulty according to the number in the world. The developer describes both hosting your own server and connecting peer to peer. This does not disclose an exact multiplier for each additional player or guarantee that every network setup behaves identically. Decide who hosts, which world you are joining and what progression you intend to share before starting. A small group can focus on a clear expedition or construction objective rather than waiting to fill all eight slots.

3. Do I have to delete an old world after updating?
No. The Autumn notes explicitly say older worlds remain available. Their limitation is that the newly added dungeons are placed during world generation, so experiencing those layouts requires creating a new world. Much of the update can be used without restarting. Keep an established settlement if your goal is to continue it; choose a new world when your goal is to see the new dungeon generation. These are different choices, and an older world lacking a newly generated location is not itself a failed update.

4. Does the October event require a new world?
The event announcement says it does not. To make the friendly spirit appear, you must progress through the desert and defeat its bosses; the spirit then arrives in town the next day. The developers recommend end-game equipment. This is a progression requirement, so a new player should not treat the event as an immediate starter quest. Its October availability and replay items are also separate from the Autumn dungeon-generation rule. Restarting a world is not the prescribed solution to a missing event spirit.

5. Can I use a controller or Steam Deck?
The Autumn update adds Steam Input controller support, and the September studio update confirms Steam Deck Verified status. The current store also lists controller-related features. Those are support statements, not a promise of a particular frame rate in every settlement or future patch. Check current prompts and bindings before borrowing keyboard instructions from an older video. If an action differs between an input device and a guide, record the action and installed version rather than assuming that the full controller implementation is still unavailable.

6. Why do logs and ore behave differently from normal inventory?
Heavy resources such as rocks, ores and logs are physical objects that are carried individually. The developer also describes cart trains for moving larger loads. This makes transport planning part of settlement building: acquiring a resource and delivering it to a useful location are separate tasks. Do not assume that adding empty ordinary inventory slots solves every hauling problem. Watch how the material is accepted at storage and where your next construction needs it before deciding how far to extend a gathering trip.

7. What do citizens and the gods add to progression?
Citizens can be found and recruited as artisans, and their happiness matters to the settlement. The store describes towns supporting crafting, farming and automated production, with specialized settlements and trade routes later in exploration. Restoring the gods grants access to technologies, buffs and upgrades. These are progression systems to inspect in the game, not evidence for one universal recruit order or a guaranteed resource route. Choose your next goal from the specific need or requirement your current settlement presents.

8. Which recent fixes should I check before reporting a problem?
The Autumn update adds network-quality information and improves connection handling. The October 1 patch changes respawn behavior and improves pathfinding, and the October 6 hotfix addresses duplicate Ghostly Worshippers. If a report mentions one of these issues, include the installed version, host/client role and whether the world predates the dungeon update. Those details distinguish a known corrected problem from a current one. They also make a report more useful than describing every old-world difference as lost content or a general multiplayer failure.

| Goal | World choice |
|---|---|
| Continue an existing town | Keep the old world |
| See newly generated Autumn dungeons | Create a world after the update |
| Join Mundus Cerialis | Keep the world; meet event progression requirements |
Write down the world-generation version and the installed game version separately. One controls which dungeons were placed; the other controls the running fixes and features.
