Romestead is in Early Access, and dungeon advice depends on when the world was generated. The Autumn update changes room layouts, enemy encounters and rewards; October adds a separate progression-gated event. This guide explains how to choose an expedition, interpret changed equipment effects and prepare for the seasonal challenge without treating future content as playable.
- Confirm the world-generation rule before searching
- Read the changed room instead of repeating an old entrance strategy
- Treat multi-floor locations as a navigation task
- Re-check modifiers on the equipment you intend to use
- Understand respawn changes before a boss attempt
- Unlock the event through the desert progression
- Keep the items that allow an event replay
- Separate a released encounter from a studio preview
1. Confirm the world-generation rule before searching
New Autumn dungeons are placed when a world is created, so they require a newly generated world. Existing worlds survive the update but do not receive those newly placed layouts. This explains why searching an old map indefinitely may not reveal a location from a recent screenshot. Decide whether the expedition is meant to explore your established world or experience the new dungeon set. Preserve an existing settlement when it still serves your goal rather than assuming that updating requires deleting it.

2. Read the changed room instead of repeating an old entrance strategy
The Autumn overhaul widens entrance areas and adds pillars and routes intended to reduce enemies trapping you at the entrance. Challenge rooms gain more varied encounters and new traps; the notes also state that a room resets on death rather than leaving enemies piled around its entry. On a new layout, inspect the available movement space and enemy positions before committing to a familiar approach. A changed encounter is not evidence that an old safe position will still work or that every room now follows one identical pattern.

3. Treat multi-floor locations as a navigation task
Some of the new unique dungeons contain additional floors reached by doors or stairs. Watch for those connections before deciding that the first area is the whole location. The update also introduces themed loot tables, including food-oriented camp rewards and metal or tool rewards in foundries. That helps set expectations about the kind of expedition, but it does not guarantee a particular named drop on every visit. Plan enough room and transport for what you actually find rather than following an invented fixed treasure route.

4. Re-check modifiers on the equipment you intend to use
The Autumn balance notes allow bows to receive Precise and Strong modifiers, permit modifiers on crafted capes and change Pristine armour from melee damage to critical damage. An old equipment recommendation can therefore be wrong even if it names an item still present in the game. Read the effect on your current piece and compare it with your chosen weapon and actions. This gives a reason for an equipment change without claiming that a modifier or weapon is automatically best for every boss.

5. Understand respawn changes before a boss attempt
The October 1 patch adds a respawn timer and increases respawn time while a boss is active. That changes the consequences of a failed attempt, so a group should prepare its equipment and agree on the encounter before entering. The published notes do not specify a universal safe number of seconds or a guaranteed recovery tactic. Observe the timer on your build, and describe the encounter accurately if it seems wrong. Current enemy pathfinding improvements are also not a guarantee that terrain will neutralize every threat.

6. Unlock the event through the desert progression
The October studio announcement says the friendly spirit appears in town the day after you have progressed through the desert and defeated its bosses. No new world is required. The developers recommend end-game gear for the event, so treat it as a later challenge rather than an opening shortcut to equipment. If the spirit is absent, check those requirements and the in-game day before starting a new world. Keep the seasonal prerequisite separate from the Autumn requirement for newly generated dungeon layouts.

7. Keep the items that allow an event replay
Mundus Cerialis runs during October, and the announcement distinguishes the friendly spirit from the items that start its challenge. The spirit leaves when the seasonal event ends, but retained start items allow the challenge to be replayed. Preserve those items if you want that option; do not treat their continued existence as proof that the town NPC stays permanently. The October patch adds four equipment items, a boss encounter and an enemy variant, while the later hotfix addresses duplicate Ghostly Worshippers.

8. Separate a released encounter from a studio preview
The event is not fully localized yet, according to the developer, so unclear text may need checking against the announcement rather than a guess about a new objective. Studio updates also discuss a future biome, new enemies and bosses under development. Those statements are not a route to content already installed. When comparing expedition advice, record the world-generation version, running patch and whether the guide covers an applied update or a preview. Those three facts explain many apparent disagreements between otherwise plausible recommendations.

| Decision | Useful distinction |
|---|---|
| New dungeon is missing | World-generation version, not just installed patch |
| Event spirit is missing | Desert bosses and the following in-game day |
| Advice lists a new biome | Released content versus development preview |
Keep the world version, patch version and event requirements in your expedition notes. Preserve replay-start items before the seasonal NPC leaves.
