MARVEL Cosmic Invasion Teams: Swaps, Assists & DLC

Team building in MARVEL Cosmic Invasion is about the relationship between two heroes and the encounter you want to improve. This guide explains how to compare pairs using current swap, assist and balance information. It includes optional Cyclops & The Thing ideas while keeping November characters outside the available roster.

Release scope: the base game, released balance patches and the optional Cyclops & The Thing DLC. The Siege of Castle Doom is announced for November 10, 2026 and is not available at the October 13 source check.

1. Choose the problem before choosing a replacement hero

The Cosmic Swap system encourages complementary abilities, but a meaningful team change starts with a specific difficulty: following an aerial enemy, handling a crowded ground encounter or recognizing a partner action. Keep one familiar hero while testing a replacement on the same stage and settings. Read both current move lists and observe what the switch changes. This approach does not declare a universal best pair; it gives you evidence for whether a different ability solves the problem you are actually experiencing.

2. Compare assists under the current damage safeguards

The released DLC update changes base-game assist behavior so the assisting hero is knocked down after three quick successive hits during a Cosmic Assist. It also corrects excessive damage from a particular enemy interaction. When comparing teams, observe where you call the partner and whether nearby attacks interrupt the assist. A partner that disappears or falls should not automatically be described as a broken combo. The safeguard limits one form of exposure; it does not document complete invulnerability or a universal cooldown rule for every assist.

3. Account for balance changes before ranking a hero

The same update changes several existing heroes: Spider-Man receives projectile and sliding-kick damage adjustments, Rocket has multiple range and damage changes with different charged-attack behavior, and Storm gains a longer charged attack. Those facts make a launch-era ranking a poor substitute for a current comparison. Read the action you intend to use and test it in a familiar encounter. A patch changing one move does not prove that the hero wins every matchup or that the rest of the pair is irrelevant.

4. Check whether a combo problem was actually patched

The readability patch fixes the assisting hero being treated as grounded while the active hero is airborne, an issue that previously prevented an air grab. Other released notes fix grab freezes and failures in charged pulls for particular heroes. If an old combo discussion calls an interaction impossible or unreliable, compare its date with these applied fixes. Reproduce the action on the current build before replacing the hero. Record whether you were airborne, assisting or charging so the result describes the same interaction.

5. Evaluate Cyclops and The Thing as an optional complement

The DLC announcement describes Cyclops firing diagonal beams to counter aerial enemies, while The Thing offers grappling power and surprising mobility. That suggests a practical comparison between reaching an aerial target and controlling a ground encounter. It does not publish exact best routes, frame data or a guaranteed boss strategy. These heroes require the optional released DLC, so base-game recommendations should offer choices from the original roster instead. If you own them, test the particular actions against an encounter you already understand.

6. Keep mode modifiers constant during a team test

Arcade enemy health can be multiplied by 0.5, 1, 2 or 3 in the revised modifier system. The later patch exposes modifiers in the pause and party-up screens and improves credit feedback. Check these settings before using time-to-clear or survival as evidence for a better pair. A change in enemy health can explain a much larger difference than a hero swap. Hold the stage, modifier choices and connection mode constant, and write down which action you are comparing rather than relying on an overall impression alone.

7. Interpret boss and network changes separately

Released updates alter boss behavior, including cooldowns and defensive actions, and correct online synchronization during throws and selection-screen transitions. A smoother run after updating therefore is not automatically evidence that your new pair caused the improvement. Note the installed version when comparing results and distinguish a connection fault from an enemy response. In co-op, tell the host what interaction you are testing so other players can keep the situation understandable. Avoid claiming fixed timing windows that the notes do not provide.

8. Leave announced November heroes out of current rankings

The Siege of Castle Doom announcement schedules Doctor Doom, Invisible Woman and a new mode for November 10, 2026. At this guide check, the DLC is still coming soon. It is reasonable to note their announced arrival, but there is no released-build basis here for ranking their combinations, assigning exact roles or telling a player to select them today. Revisit team advice after the actual release and its applied notes. Until then, choose among the base roster and the released DLC you own.

A useful pair recommendation names the encounter, installed patch, owned content and mode settings. Without those details, a confident ranking is difficult to reproduce.

Key points

Choose a pair for a specific encounter, compare assists and moves under the current patches, and hold modifiers constant. Treat Cyclops and The Thing as optional released content and keep November character previews out of present team rankings.
