Oaken Tower Duos: Trading, Timers & Coordination

Oaken Tower Duos is released Early Access content, with its own leaderboard and coordination rules. Recent updates change sharing, pings, lobby synchronization and the timer used when a partner stops responding. This guide explains those applied rules and the current Seer changes so a group can cooperate without borrowing instructions from an outdated beta.

Early Access: this guide covers the released Q3 update and patches through 0.6.5.3. Item balance changes frequently. The developer is working toward 1.0; previews of that release are not instructions for currently available features.

1. Confirm the pairing and mode together

The official Duos release supports playing with a friend or matching with a random partner and gives the mode a separate ranked leaderboard. The host chooses Casual or Ranked, while the other player can signal a preference. Hotfix 0.6.5.2 adds frequent lobby synchronization of that selection. Confirm the mode before readying so both players know whether the goal is experimentation or a ranked run. The presence of a teammate does not make a session automatically Casual or settle how every disconnection will be treated.

2. Use pings to communicate a specific need

Duos pings have been extended to perks and encounter choices, including the encounter phase, while later fixes address their alignment for Deep Freeze. Name the item, perk or option you want your partner to inspect rather than relying on a vague general request. The Q3 notes also make players selecting Random Packs receive the same random selection, which helps when sharing compatible copies. These tools support coordination; they do not establish that every random pair will automatically produce a working synergy.

3. Check the intended item before passing a crowded stack

Patch 0.6.5.1 fixes an item disappearing when clicked as the shop phase ended and an accidental return caused by clicking an item over the portal when the partner sent it. Its inventory changes make the current infobox identify the item that will be picked up. Check that selection before passing a copy, especially near a phase transition. Those fixes are reasons to update and communicate the action, not a guarantee that rushed input around every transition can never produce a mistaken trade.

4. Pass shards in the current quick-transfer increments

The Q3 update changes right-click quick-passing so a shard stack sends at most five shards per action. Repeated actions can still be used. This prevents accidentally sending an enormous stack at once, so an old clip showing the whole stack transferred by one quick-pass does not describe the same current behavior. Agree on how much the partner needs and watch the amount sent. Keep item sharing and shard transfer distinct; the documented increment is not a universal limit on every type of object exchanged in Duos.

5. Read the current Seer option instead of an old shards plan

Patch 0.6.4 removes the Seer Shards option and replaces it with a potion for the teammate, with the offered potion depending on the day. The following 0.6.5.1 patch corrects the displayed cooldown reduction on the day-eight option from minus 0.2 seconds to its actual minus 0.3 seconds. Inspect the current option and the teammate benefit before choosing. A Seer plan written before those changes can name an unavailable reward or the wrong displayed effect even though the encounter itself still exists.

6. Use Initiate Timer deliberately during the shop

Hotfix 0.6.5.2 adds Initiate Timer in Duos. If either player activates it during the shop phase, both receive a three-minute timer, after which the phase advances automatically. That is an initiated countdown, not a statement that every shop phase starts with the same compulsory timer. Discuss purchases and trades before using it when your partner is actively planning. When someone stops responding, the feature provides a documented way to move forward rather than leaving the other player indefinitely stuck in the shop.

7. Allow time to review the fight under the current speed rule

The same timer button starts a twenty-second countdown after a fight so both players can finish reviewing the combat log. That role differs from its three-minute shop behavior. The hotfix also restricts Duos to 2x speed for synchronization, and the preceding patch starts fights automatically after a short delay. Do not explain the absence of another fight speed as a personal settings failure. Name the phase when discussing a timer, and compare the combat log before moving on if you are investigating an interaction.

8. Check maintenance and update state before a rated run

Recent patches add Steam-maintenance warnings, including the warning in the Duos lobby, and improve ready-call handling and synchronization. The July release also shows Update available and disables Ranked and Duos until the game is updated. If a partner appears stuck at Waiting, record the phase and connection circumstances rather than assuming the timer or item build caused it. The developer discusses attempted fixes, so do not promise that a particular patch eliminates every network fault or protects rating in every possible departure scenario.

Key points

Coordinate with current pings and stack selection, use the five-shard quick-pass behavior and read revised Seer choices. Distinguish shop and review countdowns, keep Duos at its current 2x speed and check updates or maintenance before a rated session.
