Train Sim World® 6 FAQ: Editions & Compatible Content

A route, a locomotive, a timetable layer and a game edition are different parts of a Train Sim World collection. This FAQ explains how to identify the content you own, what the Training Center contains, and why transferring a profile or reading news for the next game does not expand your TSW6 library.

Version scope: Train Sim World 6, its documented features and August corrections. Train Sim World 7 is a separate released title; news for 7 does not establish a feature in 6. The TSW6 FAQ contains dated launch offers and planned additions, which are kept separate from verified availability.

1. Why does my library say Free Starter Pack?

The official FAQ says the base application uses the Free Starter Pack name even when it was obtained through a paid bundle. Deluxe and Special are collections of add-ons for that same application, rather than separate executable versions. Check installed DLC before assuming the library label means the purchase failed. The launch FAQ describes a six-week free promotion; this dated offer does not prove that a new free claim remains available at this October check.

2. What can I do in the base Training Center?

The Training Center is the base area when no route add-ons are installed. The FAQ lists the SD40-2, BR 146, Class 323, Class 66 and 8F steam locomotive as its training equipment. This is a place to learn controls, not the complete three-route Standard collection. If only this area appears, check whether the route content from your package has finished downloading before treating the absence as a progression gate.

3. How do the main editions differ?

Standard includes Morristown Line, Riviera Line and Leipzig–Dresden; the official table also lists Nahverkehr Dresden. Deluxe adds ALP-45DP, BR 294 and CrossCountry Class 220 equipment, and Special includes further compatible routes. The store gives a regular US base price of $49.99 at this check. Select by the named add-ons you want to use, since an edition name alone does not tell you which locomotive is included or whether an older collection overlaps it.

4. Can I play multiplayer or share a driver cab online?

The TSW6 FAQ explicitly describes a single-player experience and says it does not support multiplayer. Creators Club sharing is a different feature: it lets players publish creations, with Dovetail Live sign-up required. A shared livery or scenario is not another human driving in the same world. Choose Timetable, Scenario, Free Roam or Conductor play according to your own session goal rather than expecting a native multiplayer lobby.

5. Will my old add-ons work automatically?

Compatible purchases on the same platform and account can provide a TSW6 entitlement at no additional cost. The TSW6-compatible files still need to be downloaded. Steam entitlement is automatic for qualifying digital ownership, while the FAQ describes sequential version claims on PlayStation. Subscription access is not the same as owning an add-on. Verify the exact compatibility and acquisition method before assuming that seeing a route in a previous game guarantees its presence in this installation.

6. Does a Dovetail Live login transfer purchases?

No. The FAQ separates platform-account purchases from Dovetail Live and from an imported in-game profile. Profile import from TSW2 onward is described for the same platform and account, but it does not transfer DLC licences. Switching from one store ecosystem to another is also a separate purchase question. Keep progress, Mastery information and content ownership distinct when investigating a missing route, instead of repeatedly importing a profile to solve an entitlement problem.

7. Does every compatible route gain every new feature?

The store warns that compatible content can retain its original features. The FAQ gives a more precise example: Signal Delays apply to older routes, while its launch feature table limits announcements, temporary speed restrictions and train faults to relevant new content. Check the add-on database and the supported locomotive before diagnosing a missing announcement as broken audio. Compatibility means the content can be used in the game, not that every newer system has been retrofitted to it.

8. Can I use a TSW7 announcement as a TSW6 guide?

No. The current Steam feed promotes the released Train Sim World 7 and its content, but the named game remains important. New platforms and add-on support also changed after the August Gen 8 announcement: existing TSW6 content remains playable on PS4 and Xbox One, while future editions and newly developed releases use supported newer platforms. This is not a statement that old TSW6 libraries have stopped working or that a TSW7 route is automatically included in TSW6.

Key points

The library label and edition name do not replace checking owned DLC. TSW6 is single-player, compatible content needs its correct files, and profiles or news for 7 do not transfer purchases or features.
