Ranked sets and Open Lobbies solve different needs. This guide explains the competitive set, character rank and disconnect rules, then shows how to configure a practice room and use spectating. It follows the September Ranked release and October lobby update rather than assuming every future online feature is already present.
- Choose Ranked or Casual deliberately
- Prepare for the complete ranked set
- Understand placements and character badges
- Keep XP and disconnect handling separate
- Configure the current Open Lobby
- Browse or share access with the intended players
- Review an exchange through spectating
- Keep future room features and connection fixes in scope
1. Choose Ranked or Casual deliberately
The September release adds Ranked 1.0 alongside Casual matchmaking. Ranked can increase or decrease standing and shows a badge to the opponent; Casual uses matchmaking without those rank stakes. Decide whether the session is for competitive results or for trying a new response before entering. The two modes are not interchangeable progress routes: the developer explicitly separates online XP from ranked points. A casual session can still be useful practice without being a badge-grinding method.

2. Prepare for the complete ranked set
The developer describes Ranked as a three-out-of-five set, with characters locked until that set is complete. Once one player has won three matches, the players may continue and change characters, but those subsequent matches no longer alter rank. Plan for the scored set rather than treating each post-set rematch as another ranking opportunity. A single match result and the completed set are different points in the process, so read the current result screen before assuming the ranking portion is still active.

3. Understand placements and character badges
The September explanation divides badges into beginner placement ranks and later point-based ranks. Placement calibration does not use a fixed number of matches. Rookie, Apprentice and Acolyte mark stages of that calibration; afterward, rank points determine the character badge. The same notice says its tenth badge was not accessible at that release. Do not turn that dated statement into an unverified permanent current limit or promise a badge after an invented number of placement wins.

4. Keep XP and disconnect handling separate
XP shows the amount of online play, while only Ranked Mode accumulates rank points. The September notes also place players in a separate queue when the disconnect rate exceeds twenty percent. These are separate systems: more XP does not cancel that queue rule or establish a higher rank. The note does not define a universal reset time, so no recovery timetable is invented here. For repeated network failures, describe the connection symptom rather than assuming every disconnect was intentional.

5. Configure the current Open Lobby
Patch 3.0 allows two to sixteen players and public or private access by invitation or code. Round time can be normal sixty seconds or infinite. The full notes permit first-to-one through first-to-ten win limits or infinite rematches. Agree on those settings for a practice session before judging an outcome against ranked expectations. Room capacity is not the size of one simultaneous fight, and a custom long session does not inherit Ranked’s points or locked-character rules automatically.

6. Browse or share access with the intended players
Open lobby browsing shows capacity, host, country, round time and win limit. The list can be refreshed for newly created rooms. Codes support joining compatible cross-platform lobbies, while hosts can hide the displayed code for streaming. Use public visibility when you want players to find the room and invitation access when arranging a specific practice group. Hosts can kick or ban users and view profiles or send friend requests; those room tools do not imply control over the global ranked queue.

7. Review an exchange through spectating
Joining a full game session allows spectating. Live playback provides rewind and fast-forward controls, so a viewer can inspect a missed exchange instead of relying entirely on memory. Use a specific moment and the fighters’ resource states as the basis for discussion. Lobby playback is not the same feature as Replay Takeover, which the store describes as entering a saved match to try another action. Watching an outcome and experimentally changing it answer different practice questions.

8. Keep future room features and connection fixes in scope
The full Patch 3.0 notes place queuing and winner-stays-on in a future update. They should not be presented as current room organization tools. The patch also fixes an issue producing poor relay connections in lobbies, but that statement is not a guarantee of flawless latency for every location or connection. For a remaining problem, record room settings and the observed behavior. Recheck a newer release before treating an old bug or a scheduled feature as the current explanation.
