A Game About Feeding A Black Hole FAQ: Modes & DLC

The base incremental loop now sits alongside several released modes with distinct objectives. This FAQ separates Roguelike, Orb Breaker and Just Keep Fishing from the similarly named standalone games, and identifies what the optional supporter content changes.

Version scope: released modes through Patch 1.8.0. The related standalone games and optional Googly Eye Supporter Pack are separate products. Developer completion estimates are approximate; old Roguelike scaling and controller behavior were corrected later.

1. What is the base game about?

The store describes a short incremental experience of feeding matter to a black hole by destroying asteroids, planets and stars. Upgrades and additional modes expand that loop. The current regular US base price is $6.99, separate from a regional price or temporary sale. The overview does not provide one guaranteed completion time for every mode or an optimal upgrade tree. Begin by identifying which mode and objective the current screen is showing.

2. How do I win Roguelike Mode?

The release note sets the objective at growing the black hole twenty times. Each growth presents three randomly generated upgrades, from which one is chosen, and the next growth requires more feeding. Failure to grow within the available time ends the attempt. Endless play is available after the mode is beaten. The developer estimates about twenty minutes for a winning run, but that estimate is not a guarantee that the first attempt or every build has the same duration.

3. Is the old Endless wall at thirty-one still the rule?

Patch 1.6.2 explicitly changes Endless scaling to remove the hard wall at thirty-one. An old recording stopping there may show the earlier tuning rather than the current intended limit. The note does not establish that every future run can continue forever without difficulty, nor a verified maximum score. Use the current challenge and upgrade pool when comparing an outcome, and keep a historical scaling fix separate from a promise that every build wins.

4. What is Orb Breaker Mode?

Patch 1.7.0 adds a mode where spawned orbs bounce around and break asteroids. It adds seven upgrades and icons for that mechanic and describes a roughly ten-to-fifteen-minute session. Orb Breaker also names a separate game promoted in the same announcement; the included mode and that standalone product are different. The developer warns the large orb count can cause lag, so the mode description should not be read as a guarantee of identical performance at every stage.

5. What does Just Keep Fishing Mode add?

Patch 1.8.0 introduces a cursor-following turtle, seven mode upgrades and an achievement for completion, with a developer estimate of ten to fifteen minutes. The post uses both asteroid and fish language for this themed variant; this guide describes the turtle mechanic without inventing separate inventories or economies from that wording. The standalone Just Keep Fishing game is a separate product. A celebration mode in Black Hole does not grant ownership of it.

6. Do I need Googly Eye DLC to access the new modes?

The supporter announcement says its googly eyes are cosmetic and will not affect gameplay. Later mode releases discuss those additions independently from buying the pack. Treat the supporter item as an optional look, not an invented prerequisite for winning Roguelike or using the turtle. Read the package and release notice rather than assuming every feature mentioned beside a DLC link requires another purchase. This guide does not recommend buying a cosmetic to fix a progression problem.

7. Which display and controller options changed?

Patch 1.7 adds Scientific Notation. Patch 1.8 adds a button and setting to hide the other-games promotion banner. Patch 1.6.2 adds controller support for the Roguelike upgrade screen and fixes mode-selector focus when changing modes. These are different presentation and input features. If a selection is difficult, check the current screen and device rather than interpreting a focus bug as a locked mode or missing reward.

8. Can I use an old demo or guide as the current balance?

The later 1.7.1 update adds orbs to the Roguelike pool, adjusts its balance and makes the demo ending easier. Those changes can alter the options and the outcome compared with an earlier recording. The store still presents a demo, but the available sample is not a complete test of every full-game mode. Verify the mode and patch before copying a route, especially one relying on the old Endless wall or a different set of random choices.

Check the selected mode and its objective first. Keep standalone products, optional cosmetics and current balance changes separate.

Key points

Use the current mode rules: Roguelike growth and choices, Orb Breaker orbs, and the cursor-following turtle. Supporter eyes are cosmetic, and controller, display and old-demo changes should be checked by patch.
