33 Immortals turns the Divine Comedy into a rebellion. This page covers the story setup from the Wikipedia summary, the realms and bosses from TheSixthAxis review of the 1.0 release, and every achievement from the official Steam list, where 23 show their conditions and 10 are hidden. The hidden ones are listed by name only. For how runs work, see the beginner guide.

1 The story

Wikipedia summarizes the premise: you are a damned soul who must fight through Hell, Purgatory and Heaven, rebelling against a cruel God who banished you. Familiar figures from the poem are reimagined, with Beatrice portrayed as the leader of the rebellion and Virgil as a female scholar. The store frames the goal as battling for eternal life instead of damnation, and facing the Wrath of God together.

A story told through runs
This is not a branching narrative game. Progress through the realms is the story, and your first arrival at Dark Woods, rewarded by The Rebellion Begins, is where it starts.

2 The three realms

RealmPlayersWhat changes
Inferno33The full crowd; the place to learn
Purgatorio22A third fewer players, so each one carries more weight
Paradiso11A third of the Inferno crowd

The shrinking player count is the design lesson of the realms: in Inferno you can lean on the crowd, but by Paradiso every missed co-op marker or unrevived ally matters much more. Build your perks and weapons in the earlier realms before pushing on.

3 Bosses

Lucifer
The boss of Inferno. From King to Nothing is for defeating him.
Adam and Eve
The boss encounter of Purgatorio.
Wrath of God
The final challenge in Paradiso, named in the store description.

TheSixthAxis notes that you must complete Ascension Battles before facing a boss, and lists a lack of boss variety among its criticisms. LadiesGamers describes gigantic health pools that make sense with over thirty players attacking at once, and additional mechanics such as destroying crystals, managing enemy waves or completing objectives.

4 Sins, virtues and your arsenal

The store says weapons and relics are inspired by sins and virtues, each with unique combat mechanics. Sources differ on the count: Wikipedia describes 14 weapons, one for each of the seven deadly sins and seven heavenly virtues, while TheSixthAxis counted eight spanning tank, DPS, range and support roles. Among the names TheSixthAxis gives are the Sword of Justice, Daggers of Greed, Bow of Hope, Crossbows of Pride and Staff of Sloth. The achievement Arsenal Adept only asks for 8 unlocks, so you do not need every weapon for it.

Cosmetics are part of the long tail too. Style Explorer asks you to equip a common cape, halo and weapon skin, and Fashionista an epic halo, cape, weapon skin and familiar. The store lists 12 add-on items, which the reviews used here did not describe.

Summary

33 Immortals casts you as a damned soul rebelling against God, with Beatrice leading the uprising. Inferno holds 33 players and Lucifer, Purgatorio 22 and Adam and Eve, and Paradiso 11 and the Wrath of God, so later realms demand more from each player. Weapons draw on the sins and virtues. Of the 33 achievements, 23 show their conditions across progress, teamwork, runs, builds and collections, and 10 are hidden.
