Gallipoli is a first-person shooter set on the Ottoman fronts of the First World War, from Dutch studio BlackMill Games. It follows Verdun, Tannenberg and Isonzo in the WW1 Game Series. You fight as a regular soldier of the British or Ottoman Empire in 50-player objective battles across the Gallipoli Peninsula and Mesopotamia, where most accurate shots put a soldier down immediately. This page covers what to know before buying. For how to survive your first matches, see the beginner guide, and for maps, classes and all achievements, see the maps and classes page.
1 What kind of shooter is it
A slow, lethal, team-first one. The store calls it a hardcore, one-shot-one-kill PvP environment that demands teamwork. Weapons are weighty, reloads are methodical, and handling is affected by your mental state and how familiar you are with each weapon.
Players are grouped into squads, and each side fields five squads of five. There are ten historical classes, with roles such as Officer, Heavy Machine Gunner, Sniper and Stretcher Bearer. The maps and classes page lists them all.
2 Can you play without other people
Only in a limited way. The Steam page lists single-player, and the store explains what that means: bots join public matches, and can optionally be added to custom matches. There is no story campaign. Both requirement tiers list a broadband connection, so treat Gallipoli as an online PvP game that uses bots to fill gaps.
3 How many modes are there
TheSixthAxis counted one mode at launch: Expedition. It is asymmetric. Attackers push through a map sector by sector toward headquarters objectives, while defenders try to hold them with limited reinforcements. NoobFeed adds that secondary objectives can give attackers forward spawns or strip defenders of resources, and the store asks you to keep momentum high while breaking through. The beginner guide explains how to play each side.
4 Crossplay and platforms
Gallipoli launched on Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. The store advertises squads on PC and consoles with crossplay, and TheSixthAxis confirmed crossplay between PC and console from day one, with smooth console performance. For a 50-player game, a shared player pool matters for quick matchmaking.
5 What reviewers said
| Source | Result |
|---|---|
| Metacritic (PC) | 83 out of 100 |
| OpenCritic | 89% of critics recommend it |
| Steam users | Close to 4,000 reviews by mid September 2026 |
TheSixthAxis liked the lethal gunplay, the suppression system and the atmosphere of each map. Its criticisms were the single mode, gunplay that is deliberately clunky and can frustrate, and a cluttered interface at times, though a HUD toggle is available.
6 Content notice
The developer notice warns of frequent violence or gore and general mature content. It also states that gore and blood can be disabled completely with an in-game setting, which is useful if you want the tactics without the imagery. This guide does not describe violent scenes in detail.

Gallipoli is a hardcore WW1 squad shooter at a list price of USD 29.99, with 25 versus 25 objective battles between the British and Ottoman Empires. Bots fill public matches and can join custom ones, but there is no campaign, and the only launch mode is Expedition. Crossplay covers PC and consoles. Critics rated it well, 83 on Metacritic for PC, while noting clunky-by-design gunplay and interface clutter. Gore can be switched off, and it needs 16 GB of memory and 30 GB of storage.
