VHOLUME is a melancholic first-person parkour adventure set in a dystopian brutalist city, where bureaucracy turns a simple task into an odyssey. It was made by Nathan Grange, Léonard Lemaitre and Niels Tiercelin and published by IronEqual, and it launched on Steam on 21 August 2026. This page answers the questions people ask before buying. For movement and how to improve your times, see the beginner guide, and for medals, level types and achievements, see the medals page.

1 What kind of game is it

A movement game first. The store describes movement-centric play where you can jump, run, climb and slide with great freedom, through environments that test both agility and creativity. The Guardian, reviewing it for its games section, lists wall-runs, power-slides, wall-kicks and mantling, and says the controls are powered mainly by trigger squeezes that let you hop or duck.

Run
Chain jumps, climbs, wall-runs and slides through huge concrete spaces.
Optimize
Use momentum and shortcuts to beat target times on each level.
Wander
Talk to people you meet; two achievements reward it.

2 What is the story

In the derelict capital of Afro-Eurasia, ruled by an all-controlling Ministry, a man named Robert sets out on a bureaucratic quest to restore his family ration tickets, which have been revoked. The store frames the tone as melancholic, and the Guardian notes that while the world is horrible, your path through it is paved with joy and exhilaration. The contrast between a bleak setting and the pleasure of moving through it is the heart of the game.

3 Is it only for speedrunners

No, but it rewards the mindset. The store says mastery-driven players can exploit momentum, discover shortcuts and break the labyrinthine design as they chase target times. Steam lists the game as playable without timed input, and the achievements separate simply finishing every main level from beating bronze, silver and gold times, so you can enjoy the journey first and chase medals later.

Later levels get busier
The Guardian describes simple full-ahead courses mixed with more complex, puzzle-like levels, and later additions such as jump pads, maze-like special levels and moving parts of the environment. It felt the balance between designer fun and player fun was more even in the early stages, so expect the later levels to demand more patience.

4 Multiplayer, ghosts and the Workshop

FeatureWhat it offers
MultiplayerJoin friends and experience every level together (store)
GhostsSee other players ghosts, share your own and find new routes; the Guardian mentions racing against them
LeaderboardsWorldwide leaderboards (the Guardian, Steam Leaderboards)
Steam WorkshopPlay levels made by the community or create your own (store)

5 Who made it

Steam credits Nathan Grange, Léonard Lemaitre and Niels Tiercelin as developers, with IronEqual as publisher. The Japanese site AUTOMATON notes that Léonard Lemaitre is one of the Lemaitre brothers behind STRAFTAT and BABBDI, two earlier games also known for distinctive movement and atmosphere. A demo was released before launch; Game*Spark reports it contained four levels.
