VHOLUME is easy to start and hard to master. This guide covers what you need on your first run and when you begin chasing times, based on the store description, the Guardian review, coverage by AUTOMATON and Game*Spark, and the official achievement list, which confirms the medal structure. It explains the tools and habits rather than giving routes for specific levels, because finding shortcuts is part of the fun. Buying questions are on the FAQ page.

1 The movement toolkit

There is also a speed ceiling to hit: the achievement Case closed is awarded for reaching terminal velocity. That tells you speed can build a long way if you keep your momentum unbroken.

2 Controls that live on the triggers

The Guardian explains that movement is powered mainly by trigger squeezes that let you hop or duck, with the rest of the moves flowing from those two actions and your direction. Steam lists full controller support, so a gamepad is a natural choice, though exact bindings are best checked in the game settings.

Think hop and duck, not twenty buttons
Because so much comes from two inputs, timing matters more than remembering commands. Practice when to hop onto a wall and when to duck into a slide, and the flashier moves follow.

3 Kinds of levels

Full-ahead courses
Simple, fast runs where flow is everything (the Guardian).
Puzzle-like levels
More complex spaces where finding the path comes first (the Guardian).
Later additions
Jump pads, maze-like special levels and moving parts of the environment.

On a puzzle-like level, finish once at an easy pace just to learn the route. Only then start pushing for time; trying to be fast and find the way at once usually costs more time than it saves.

4 Momentum and shortcuts

The store says mastery-driven players can exploit momentum, discover shortcuts and break the labyrinthine design. AUTOMATON similarly notes that using shortcuts to run faster is how you climb the rankings. In practice that suggests three habits.

1
Protect your speed
Avoid stops. A slide or wall-run that keeps you moving often beats a shorter path that forces a halt.
2
Look for skipped corners
Labyrinthine layouts invite you to cut across rather than follow the obvious corridor.
3
Change one thing per attempt
Try a single new idea each run so you know exactly what helped.

5 Understanding target times

The achievement list confirms three target times per level: bronze, silver and gold. Beating each once on any level earns Just in time, A moment behind and A fleeting second. Beating them on every main level earns Never late, Model Citizen and The way ahead. Bronze is a sensible first goal; gold is where the shortcut hunting starts.

Good habits
Clear every main level first, then return for bronze everywhere before chasing silver and gold.
Common mistakes
Grinding one gold time for an hour instead of learning other levels that make the moves feel natural.

6 Learning from ghosts

The store lets you see other players ghosts and share your own to discover new ways through each level, and the Guardian mentions racing against them alongside worldwide leaderboards. When a ghost pulls away from you, follow its line on the next attempt. You will often discover a shortcut you had not noticed, which is exactly what the feature is for.

7 Slow down and talk

Not everything is about speed. Familiar Face is awarded for talking to someone and Who's left ? for talking to everyone, so there are people in the city worth stopping for. Doing this on a relaxed first run keeps it from interrupting your timed attempts later, and it adds to the melancholic story the store describes.

Summary

You jump, climb, slide, wall-run, wall-kick and mantle, mostly through trigger presses for hopping and ducking. Levels range from full-ahead courses to puzzle-like spaces, with jump pads and moving parts later. Learn a route calmly, then protect your momentum and look for shortcuts. Each level has bronze, silver and gold target times, and ghosts show faster lines. Take time on a first run to talk to the people you meet.
