Emissary Zero FAQ

Player limits, mixed VR play, PC requirements and the extra restrictions of Nightmare.

What are you buying?

Emissary Zero is a released Windows exploration horror game by Rone Vine, available since 28 March 2025. The central objective is to investigate a mysterious building and find the Moon while managing equipment and completing tasks. Solo play is supported alongside online and local co-op. This is a purchase and compatibility FAQ; the linked beginner guide covers navigation, while the team guide explains joining and recovery rules.

How many players can join?

The current store specifies up to four players online and up to two in split screen on one machine. It also lists Remote Play Together. These are separate advertised capabilities: the store does not establish that combining local and online players produces a larger team, so plan around the published limits. Online voice chat is included. A group can therefore choose between separate computers and a shared display without assuming every arrangement works identically.

Can VR players join monitor players?

Yes. Major Update 1.1 explicitly added full-game VR support for solo and multiplayer, including mixed sessions with VR and flat-screen players. It also says difficulty is slightly reduced when everyone in a session uses VR. That adjustment has a specific condition; it does not mean one VR participant automatically makes a mixed group easier. The current store identifies SteamVR and tracked controller support. The old VR testing announcement described a beta branch, but the later released 1.1 announcement establishes the feature in the main game.

What is different about Nightmare?

Update 1.3 added Nightmare as another difficulty mode. It removes save points, limits each revival terminal to one use, and places mid-game arrivals into spectator mode until a current player uses a terminal. If the whole group dies, the game starts again from the beginning. The developer states that there is no additional reward for clearing this difficulty. Choose it for the challenge rather than for an assumed exclusive unlock. These restrictions are explicitly about Nightmare and should not be presented as the universal rules of ordinary play.

Is there a demo, and what does it cost?

The US store API checked on 26 October 2026 lists a base price of USD 8.99, with no discount in that snapshot. Regional currency, tax and later promotions can change the checkout amount. The store also provides a separate free demo. Use that listing to try the presentation before buying, but do not assume it contains every area, later patch feature or difficulty mode in the full game; the current sources do not define an identical content scope.

What PC specifications apply?

The published minimum for monitor play is Windows 10 64-bit, Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 3 3300X, 6 GB RAM, GTX 750 Ti, DirectX 11 and 5 GB available storage. Recommended specifications are Windows 11 64-bit, Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600X, 8 GB RAM, GTX 1070 8 GB or RX Vega 56, DirectX 12 and the same storage allowance. The developer explicitly says these figures concern a flat-screen monitor and that VR needs higher specifications. They are not a VR performance guarantee.

Which updates matter before a group starts?

The 1.2 release added joining during gameplay and a host menu, and 1.2.1 made the number of Laboratory levers respond dynamically to the current group. Update 1.3 added a difficulty label to multiplayer session selection. Patch 1.3.3 later corrected spectator mode failing for clients. A returning group should check its difficulty and installed build before relying on an old joining guide. These are released changes in the checked announcement feed, rather than features inferred from sequel promotion.
