Star Trek: Voyager Across the Unknown Command Tips
Plan Q Trials progression and modifiers, compare current production and trade changes, and use the Delta Flyer without confusing modes.
1. Build a Q Trials run around its captain rule
Q Trials lets you choose a ship, captain and starting heroes. One of 30 crew members can be captain, granting a passive bonus, but the captain remains on the bridge and does not join point-of-interest missions. Compare that passive with the skills you want available for assignments. Promoting a useful event specialist changes more than the portrait in the captain chair.
Heroes sent to points of interest affect odds with their attributes, gain experience and may be injured or fatigued. They need rest when fatigued. Q Trials uses three separate progression profiles and includes Restart Run. Keep track of which profile you are developing before comparing unlocked technology or characters with a previous attempt.
2. Weigh a modifier against the rooms you actually built
At fixed distance milestones, Q Trials presents a choice of three Q Modifiers, with effects accumulating. The official Full House example doubles quarter capacity but adds a chance that crew become sick each cycle. Glass Cannon raises ship damage by 50 percent while reducing shield capacity and maximum hull integrity by 20 percent. These are explicit trade-offs, not upgrades without costs.
Q Challenges increase difficulty cumulatively: a higher challenge level keeps the lower ones active. Before choosing another modifier, compare the downside with current beds, treatment and defenses. This is an evaluation method rather than a fixed recommended build. A modifier that fits one ship or crew can create a different problem in another run.
3. Reach the sector transition for permanent research
Q Trials counts progress in light years rather than a fixed number of sectors. Each sector has a main objective and possible exits, plus optional goals that may provide shortcuts. Rewards after a sector can unlock a hero or technology for future runs, or provide immediate resources, hull repair or morale; special exits allow two selections.
Completed research persists for future runs, but that permanent progress is saved when jumping to the next sector. Event autosaves happen after each point of interest and do not replace that meta-progression checkpoint. There are no manual or sector saves in Q Trials, and no achievements can be earned there. Choose Campaign when achievement hunting rather than repeating a trial under the wrong assumption.
4. Recalculate production and trading after Patch 2.1
For Campaign planning, the Waste Disassembler level-1 output is now 80 Deuterium and 8 Duranium. Level 2 produces 120 Deuterium, 12 Duranium and 8 Tritanium. The Bussard Collector rises to 5 at level 1 and 10 at level 2. These current patch values give a concrete comparison with older production tables, while actual room conditions still need checking in your save.
Trade Protocols now grants 20 percent, up from 15 percent. Aeroshuttle Bay offers were rebalanced, and its trade button reports the amount you will actually receive when cargo space is short. Check that displayed receipt before accepting a trade. Warp Core Efficiency also consumes Dilithium and hull technology Duranium, so allocating everything to a room can affect a research purchase as well.
5. Use the Delta Flyer and separate ship ownership from mode access
Update 1.7 makes the Delta Flyer constructible in a level-3 Shuttlebay after its sector-7 introduction with Tom Paris, with one allowed. It can join combat without splitting rewards. Patch 2.1 gives it additional Campaign choices: in Juggernaut it shortens crafting and eases the away mission, and in One Small Step it can skip part 2. Read the branch text because the benefit depends on the mission.
Equinox is a paid playable ship for Q Trials, with its own rooms and DLC heroes; the free Q Trials update already lets base-game owners use the mode. Delta Chronicles 2 remains scheduled for 28 October at this 26 October check. Keep those purchase and timing boundaries clear when deciding whether to try another run now, develop an existing Campaign, or wait for the announced new missions.
