Mining while dodging, spending on the skill tree, and what changes when you switch to Endless Coffee.
Photosensitivity warning

The developer warns that flashing lights may be unsuitable for people with photosensitive epilepsy or other photosensitive conditions. An option to disable flashy explosion effects is available, but the developer has not described it as removing the warning or making the game safe for photosensitive players.

1 The core loop

Story mode runs on a simple cycle. You mine cofferoids in SpaceCorp fields and steal their AstroCoffee seeds, machines show up to stop you, you dodge their bullets and destroy them, and you spend what you collected on the skill tree to become stronger.

Every part of that loop feeds the next one, which is what makes it incremental. More mining pays for more power, more power lets you survive deeper fields, and deeper fields hold more to mine.

New skills also unlock by completing tasks and destroying SpaceCorp machines, so the game rewards engaging with enemies rather than avoiding them entirely.

2 Mining and dodging at the same time

The tension of the game comes from doing two jobs with one ship. Mining wants you to sit still near a rock. Bullet hell wants you to keep moving. Both are happening at once.

The habit that fixes most early deaths is to mine on the move: approach a target from the side that gives you an escape route, take what you can, and leave before the field fills up. Committing to finishing a rock while bullets converge is the most common way to lose progress.

Pick your input deliberately
The game supports full controller and a mouse only option. They suit different playstyles: a controller for smooth evasive movement, a mouse for precise positioning. Try both in the first half hour rather than settling by default.

3 The skill tree is the progression

Story mode carries more than 200 upgrades to discover, and exploring the tree is described by the developer as the way to increase ship power. It is not a side system.

With that many nodes, the useful mental model is to ask what is currently stopping you rather than what sounds strongest.

SymptomWhat to buy
Dying to bullets before running out of targetsSurvivability and movement, not damage
Surviving fine but progressing slowlyMining throughput and resource gain
Machines take too long to killWeapon damage, since kills also unlock skills
A boss wall you cannot passGo back a zone and bank upgrades rather than retrying immediately

4 Zones, enemies and bosses

There are 25 zones, each with unique enemies and bosses. That is a lot of distinct content for a five hour campaign, and it means the game keeps introducing new patterns rather than scaling the same ones up.

Practically, treat a new zone as a reading exercise. Spend the first moments watching what the new enemy actually does before engaging, because in a bullet hell the pattern is the puzzle and dying to something you never looked at is avoidable.

5 Switching to Endless Coffee

Endless Coffee is a separate mode with its own rules: a survivors style ship builder where you level up during a run, choosing from a pool of upgrades as you go.

In Endless Coffee you assemble a build through the shop between Days. Rebel Level and wins with ships expand the upgrade pool for later runs. The official announcement does not set a universal twenty-minute duration.

With 420 or more upgrades in this mode alone, the developer is explicit about the goal: find clever combinations and break the Universe.

6 Surviving 21 Days

The stated objective is to build your ship, survive 21 Days and destroy the source of SpaceCorp, after which you can continue into an endless stretch and see how far you get.

The following is a planning example, not an official set of phases or a guaranteed winning order.

  1. Early days: take whatever keeps you alive and moving. A dead ship has no build.
  2. Middle days: commit to a direction and start stacking upgrades that reinforce each other.
  3. Late days and endless: compare additions with current weapon caps and any remaining defensive gaps.

7 Ships change the whole run

Endless Coffee has nine ships and the developer states that each one has unique gameplay rather than different statistics. Winning with a ship unlocks its distinctive weapons or abilities as upgrades for future runs.

The efficient order is to learn the mode on the starting ship until you can survive 21 Days reliably, then treat each additional ship as a new puzzle. Rotating through all nine early mostly teaches you that you do not know any of them.

8 Your first two hours

  1. Start with story mode. It teaches the movement and the enemy vocabulary in a structured order.
  2. Try controller and mouse only within the first half hour and keep whichever feels better.
  3. Buy survivability first, mining throughput second, damage third, until you have a feel for the pace.
  4. When a boss stops you, go back and bank upgrades rather than retrying on the same build.
  5. Once the campaign is done or you get bored of it, open Endless Coffee. That is where the hours are.

Progression between runs and current Day 21 balance

Endless Coffee sends you to the shop after each Day to spend the resources collected during that run. Finishing a run raises Rebel Level, unlocking additional upgrades for later runs. Winning with a ship also adds its distinctive weapons or abilities to the upgrade pool for future runs; this is broader than simply improving that same ship.

The first target is to finish Day 21. Endless continuation follows that clear, rather than replacing it. Treat learning a ship and increasing Rebel Level as separate forms of progress: an unsuccessful clear attempt can still help you understand its equipment and subsequent options.

Patch 2 rebalanced the enemy curve before Day 21 and made new weapons and weapon tiers appear more often in the shop. It also reduced the Dodge chance needed to unlock Spir-it to 25% and gives Nessy the Sucker Lunch upgrade at the start, automatically collecting resources after a boss defeat.

Patch 3 slightly weakens enemies from Day 15. If an older guide describes a harsher late-run wall, check its date before following its spending order. A fixed rule to commit by Day 5 or refuse all later alternatives is not an official requirement; compare the actual offers, ship and remaining weaknesses.

The Story campaign remains a different progression system. Patch 2 adjusted its final-sector balance, while the original Endless release fixed a Story save-corruption bug. Keep the installation current before treating repeated failures or save trouble as intended campaign mechanics.

Summary

Story mode cycles mining, dodging, killing machines and spending on a tree of over 200 upgrades across 25 zones. Mine on the move rather than committing to a rock, and buy against whatever is currently stopping you instead of whatever sounds strongest. Endless Coffee is a different game in the same package: temporary builds, 420 or more upgrades, nine ships with distinct gameplay, and a 21 Day objective with three clear phases. Learn one ship properly before rotating.
