Reaching the Ark once is only the start. The achievement list for Monsters are Coming! Rock & Road asks you to get many different town halls there, on harder modes, across every road and under challenge rules. This page organises the official Steam achievement list into those goals so you can see the whole shape of the game before planning your runs.

1 The long goal

CGMagazine describes the overall objective as bringing ten different town halls to the safety of the Ark. The achievements trace that journey: Reach the Ark asks for five different town halls, and Complete the Ark asks for ten cities. There are also Arkbound and Ark Veteran achievements for reaching the Ark 2 and the Ark 5, and one called Live To Fight Again for deciding to leave the Ark.

Variety is the requirement
Reaching the Ark with your favourite town hall ten times does not complete it. Switch to a new town hall once one has made it, and the achievements for individual cities fall along the way.

2 Town halls in the achievement list

Each of these has its own achievement for reaching the Ark with it. CGMagazine counted ten town halls at the time of its review, and the list below is longer, so some were likely added later. The City Builder achievement asks you to unlock nine, and Corrupted Townhalls asks for two under the Power corrupts rules.

Named in CGMagazine
Belfry, Mirror City, City of Ashes, Propaganda City, Worker City, Royal Mausoleum, Medieval Fair, Great Dragon, Atrium, Caravan.
Also in the achievements
The Lumberjack, The Mayor, The King, The Golem, The Leprechaun, The Mule.

CGMagazine also notes that unlock requirements vary, giving examples such as destroying 1,000 trees or rocks in a run and reaching the Ark with fewer than 15 buildings. Check each lock condition in game, because some of them ask you to play against your usual habits.

3 Roads and bosses

GroupAchievements
RoadsComplete the Road of Elderwood, of Ice, of Sands and of Ashes
BossesDefeat SpiderMama, BigBloatoad, the Cultists and BigTreeman
Boss SlayerKill 5 bosses in one game

Each road has its own look, and CGMagazine counts three shelters on each. Boss Slayer is the hardest of this group because it needs five boss kills in a single game, so it fits best on a run where your city is already comfortably strong.

4 Difficulty modes

Four modes each have an achievement for reaching the Ark: Normal, Hard, Expert and Nightmare. There is also Invincible, for reaching the Ark without the hero dying at all.

1
Normal
Learn roads and town halls here, and try Invincible once you are confident.
2
Hard
Move up once compass upgrades are covering your usual failure points.
3
Expert
Use your strongest town hall and a build you trust.
4
Nightmare
Leave this until most permanent upgrades are bought.

5 Challenges and Power corrupts

Challenges change the rules of a run. Challenge accepted asks for five of them, and several have their own achievement. Three are tagged Power corrupts in their descriptions, as are the corrupted town halls and relics.

Challenge achievementsTag
Fuel, Hermit, The floor is lavaNone
Minimalist, Minimalist+, Minimalist++None
Risky Draw, Back FirePower corrupts
Corrupted Townhalls (2), Corrupted Relics (5)Power corrupts

The Minimalist series comes in three steps, so treat the first as practice for the second and third. The exact rules of each challenge are shown in game.

6 Unlock milestones

What you unlockAchievement thresholds
Buildings10 (Mason), 25 (Architect), 40 (Urban Planner)
Weapons6 (Veteran), 12 (Master-at-arms)
Relics5 (Archeologist), 10 (Relic Hoarder)
Heroes and town halls5 heroes (Stronger Together), 9 town halls (City Builder)
Meta upgrades120 bought (Ultimate Hero)

These arrive through normal play and compass spending. Ultimate Hero is effectively the end of the permanent upgrade tree, which is why Nightmare is best left until you are close to it.

7 Skill and score achievements

Combat
Monster Hunter: kill 5,000 enemies in one game. Rising Power: upgrade a tower to level 12.
City shape
Street.zip: shrink 20 streets into one. Wrecking Wheels: break 250 rocks with a Renegade Tower.
Score
Point Break at 100,000 points and Sky High at 1,000,000.
Summary

The long goal is getting many different town halls to the Ark, with achievements for five and for ten cities and one for each town hall, sixteen of which are named. Clear all four roads, beat SpiderMama, BigBloatoad, the Cultists and BigTreeman, and work up from Normal to Nightmare. Challenges include the three step Minimalist series and Power corrupts variants. Buildings, weapons, relics, heroes and 120 meta upgrades mark progress, with score targets up to one million.
