Beast of Reincarnation is a new action RPG from Game Freak, best known for Pokémon, published by Fictions. You play Emma, an outcast, fighting alongside Koo, a blighted dog, across a post apocalyptic Japan. The store describes a hybrid of real time action and turn based commands. This page answers the common questions without story spoilers. For the combat system, see the combat guide, and for exploration and achievements, see the exploration guide.

1 What kind of game is it

A single player action RPG. Emma fights in real time with sword abilities, while Koo acts on your commands. RPG Site explains how the two halves meet: Koo builds up points as you fight, and spending them slows time so you can choose one of his special techniques. The store lists skill trees, gear and spirit stones for building your own style, whether ranged, stealthy or aggressive.

Emma
Sword combat built around parrying, plus ranged weapons.
Koo
A companion who fights alongside you and unleashes techniques on command.
Bosses
Giant creatures from around the world whose powers you capture.

2 What is the setting

Japan in the year 4026. The store describes a beautiful but harsh post apocalyptic world where forests burst forth amid the wasteland. Reviews add that a parasitic blight has transformed animals into dangerous creatures. Emma is shunned for her affliction, and she and Koo are tasked with defeating powerful bosses to capture their powers and confront the Beast of Reincarnation. RPG Site describes the story as dense, with a great deal of lore and character focus.

3 Is it a soulslike

Partly. Reviewers compare the parry focused combat to Sekiro and Lies of P, and TheSixthAxis calls it souls-lite. It is gentler than the genre usually is in two ways reviewers mention: TheSixthAxis describes a wider parry window, and it reports that you keep skill points earned before you die. It still warns that mistakes lead to swift deaths and some grinding is needed.

Difficulty can be adjusted
Adjustable difficulty is listed among the store categories. If parry timing is the barrier, lowering difficulty is a supported option, not a workaround.

4 How long is it

Reviews disagree on the exact figure but agree it is long. RPGFan gives a minimum of about 25 hours for the campaign, and RPG Site puts it at around 40 hours, adding that it felt too long. RPGFan counts roughly a dozen areas.

5 What reviewers said

OutletScore and main point
RPG Site8/10. Strong bosses and art, but too long with repeated boss fights
TheSixthAxis7/10. Good boss design, but messy camera and weak console performance
RPGFan70/100. Great controls and parrying, but little enemy variety
◯ Praised
  • Satisfying, consistent parrying
  • Boss battles
  • Art direction and animations
✕ Criticised
  • Bosses repeated several times
  • Limited enemy variety
  • Length and invisible walls

6 Performance and requirements

Reports vary by platform and reviewer. TheSixthAxis found the console graphics mode, targeting 30 fps, virtually unplayable and the performance mode still prone to drops and pop in. RPG Site reported no performance issues on PS5, and RPGFan called the frame rate mostly stable. On PC, the store sets expectations with upscaling built in.

Note that even the recommended tier targets 60 fps at 1080p medium only with upscaling on. An SSD is required.

7 Platforms, languages and editions

It is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. On Steam, a gamepad is recommended and full controller support is listed. Eleven languages are supported, with full audio in English and Japanese. The store page mentions a Deluxe Edition bonus and lists two DLC.

Summary

Beast of Reincarnation is Game Freak's action RPG at a list price of USD 59.99, set in a blighted Japan of 4026, where Emma fights in real time while commanding her dog Koo. It is souls-lite, with a wider parry window, kept skill points on death and adjustable difficulty, and runs about 25 to 40 hours across a dozen areas. Critics scored it from 70 to 80, praising parrying and bosses but criticising repeated bosses and little enemy variety. Console performance reports vary, and PC needs 16 GB and an SSD.
