The store sells Beast of Reincarnation on its fusion of real time and turn based combat, and every review agrees that the fusion is built on one skill: parrying. Learn that first, and Koo's abilities and your build choices start to multiply its value. Details come from the store page and reviews at RPG Site, RPGFan and TheSixthAxis, which are named where only one of them reports something.
1 Parry almost everything
RPG Site calls parrying the primary means of defence, and RPGFan goes further: almost every attack can, and should, be parried. RPGFan notes that the timing wants an early input but stays consistent, and TheSixthAxis describes the window as wider than genre standards.
2 Stagger and finishing
RPGFan explains that successful parries build a stagger gauge. Filling it lets you finish ordinary enemies immediately or stagger a boss for a damage window. That is why parrying is offence as much as defence: every good parry moves the fight toward its end.
Builds stagger and, per RPG Site, restores Koo's FP.
Use a Bloom Art to add status effects or damage.
Finish the enemy or punish the staggered boss.
3 Koo and Bloom Arts
Koo fights alongside you on his own, but his special techniques, which RPG Site calls Bloom Arts, are chosen during a slow motion selection when you spend Florescence Points. This is the turn based half of the combat: time slows, you pick, and the fight resumes.
Those examples are from RPG Site. RPGFan found Koo most effective when alternating between two skills to stack status effects rather than repeating one. The Green Thumb achievement for obtaining every type of seedling suggests seeds are something you collect over the journey.
4 Ranged weapons and ammo
Emma is not limited to the sword. RPG Site describes ranged weapons with different ammo types, including explosive rounds and poison darts. The achievement list rewards collecting manuals for every arrow and bolt type, which suggests ammo variety is unlocked through those manuals, and the store names ranged play as one of the three styles you can build toward.
5 Dodging, blocking and food
Blocking and dodging exist alongside parrying, and RPG Site mentions skill tree unlocks for new dodge rolls. Use them for attacks you cannot read yet, then replace them with parries as you learn an enemy. RPG Site also describes a hunger system that affects combat strength, while RPGFan felt food had little impact. Either way, eating before a hard fight costs nothing.
6 Skill trees, gear and spirit stones
The store describes customising your playstyle through skill trees, gear and spirit stones, toward ranged, stealthy or aggressive combat. RPG Site adds that the skill tree unlocks new attacks, dodge rolls and Bloom Art modifications, that stats are upgraded at campsites, and that weapons can be improved. The achievement list tracks blade collecting, from Blade Enthusiast to Blademaster and Blade Collector for obtaining every blade.
| Style (store) | What to prioritise |
|---|---|
| Ranged | Ammo manuals and ranged upgrades |
| Stealthy | Opening strikes and status effects |
| Aggressive | Blades, attack skills and stagger pressure |
7 Dying and trying again
TheSixthAxis reports that you keep skill points earned before dying, which removes much of the sting of failure. It also warns that mistakes are punished quickly and that some grinding is needed. If a boss is walling you, spend a little time on earlier areas for upgrades rather than repeating the same failed attempt.
Parry almost every attack with a slightly early input. Parries build a stagger gauge for finishers and restore Koo's FP, which you spend in slow motion on Bloom Arts such as acid, roots, seeds and healing, ideally alternating two for status effects. Use ranged weapons and ammo types to thin groups and poison tough enemies, and dodge or block what you cannot read yet. Shape a ranged, stealthy or aggressive build with skill trees, gear, blades and spirit stones, and remember skill points survive death and bosses return.
